AMD announces New Model Numbers for 2023+ Mobile Processors

0

The Red team today formally announced the new naming system to support its 2023 mobile processor family, this comes just before the Intel event which is scheduled at the end of this month and before the Apple event scheduled today.

AMD has seen incredible growth of its mobile business—notebook shipments with Ryzen processors have grown 49 percent in just two years—and in turn, has reinvested in all-new processor categories for 2023, including “Mendocino” for feature-rich mainstream notebooks and “Dragon Range” for top-tier gaming.

As they head to 2023 and have already made the formal announcement of the new Ryzen 7000 processors and the new Zen 4 architecture, their upcoming 5nm based mobile chips will formally be announced at the CES 2023.

However, before that as we can see AMD will have a broad portfolio of products under the Ryzen 7000 series so, to make users aware of the name schemes, AMD has declared that these new mobile processors will all be branded according to the following system:

This system is foundational to how AMD will be naming and numbering its mobile processors for years to come, from mainstream thin and light notebooks to the latest SOC for gaming and content creation. Here’s what AMD states about their new naming scheme:

The New System

Our 2023+ mobile processors will all be branded according to the new system you see below. Call it a “decoder ring,” if you like! Importantly, each digit means something. For example, if you see a processor that is AMD Ryzen xx4x, you’re looking at a chip with “Zen 4” inside. If you see a processor with AMD Ryzen xx30, it’s “Zen 3”. And Ryzen xx35 is “Zen 3+”. If the processor starts with a “7xxx,” you know you’re looking at a current product in AMD’s 2023 portfolio. And if you don’t know much about what’s inside a processor, a bigger number will simply give you more CPU performance. As an example, you can see how a hypothetical Ryzen 5 7640U maps to the decoder ring.

Some of the boxes are self-evident, but it’s worth going through them in brief to sketch out why we chose this system:

  1. Portfolio Year: Gives you a sense of what model year the processor lives in. Are we actively selling it as a current-gen product in that year?
  2. Segment: Helps us communicate “at-a-glance” performance to customers browsing in the store. For example, Ryzen 9 are always our fastest and most feature-rich processors. This helps customers cross-shop at a glance, and is the most common way customers compare CPUs.
  3. Architecture: A nod to our enthusiast customers, we wanted to make sure you could see what version of “Zen” lives inside the chip. It’s important!
  4. Feature Isolation: A concession to architectures like “Zen 3” versus “Zen 3+,” which cannot be fully articulated in the architecture digit alone. Flipping this digit between 0 or 5 ensures that two different architectures don’t end up in the same Ryzen 70xx family.
  5. Form Factor/TDP: AMD’s innovation and growth in the mobile space is especially evident here, where you can see we’re servicing multiple design categories across Windows and Chromebook.

How Does it Look for 2023?

We promised you a preview of how this naming system would apply to our planned products! In 2023, AMD is expecting to take on five different market/buying segments using five different SOCs. As you can see in the matrix below, it will be a mix of all-new design wins and refreshed 2022 systems, depending on what the laptop builder is looking for. But importantly, all products live under the AMD Ryzen 7000 umbrella, and each CPU architecture exists only within one series.

Just as a few examples: If you want a max performance gaming notebook, the AMD Ryzen 7045 Series will always give you a “Dragon Range” processor. If you want AMD’s latest ultrathin SOC for gaming and mobility, you’ll always find a “Phoenix” processor in the Ryzen 7040 Series.

The Years Ahead

This new numbering system is foundational to how we will be naming and numbering our mobile processors for years to come, and we’ve already smoke-tested it against a 5-year time horizon. We hope this new system will give everyone a better sense of what’s inside our processors, and we hope that it shows we’ve been listening to your conversations around the importance of model numbering.

HARMAN acquires In-cabin Radar Sensing Pioneer CAARESYS

CAARESYS Contactless Sensing Technology enables highly accurate In-Cabin Heart/Respiratory Rate Monitoring, Passenger Localization and Child Presence Detection (CPD); Positions HARMAN at the Forefront of the growing In-Cabin Safety and Well-being Category.

HARMAN International, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. focused on connected technologies for automotive, consumer and enterprise markets, today announced the acquisition of CAARESYS, an Israel-based company founded in 2017 that develops vehicle passenger monitoring systems powered by contactless, low-emission radar. CAARESYS has successfully partnered with leading OEMs and provides a mass production solution for cabin monitoring including vital signs sensing, passenger localization and Child Presence Detection (CPD).

The in-cabin radar sensor and algorithm solution from CAARESYS will strengthen HARMAN’s automotive product offerings, building on the company’s strong consumer-centric Digital Cockpit and ADAS solutions. With CAARESYS’ contactless vital signs sensing and real-time insights from that information, HARMAN can now offer new levels of in-vehicle safety, comfort, and well-being in its growing product line.

“With the acquisition of CAARESYS, we gain market-leading in-cabin radar sensing technology and radar-enabled features that can quickly integrate into our products,” said Christian Sobottka, President, Automotive Division, HARMAN. “And by partnering with HARMAN, automakers can deliver the key safety and well-being features that consumers demand – today as opposed to years from now.”

CAARESYS technology utilizes biometrics to detect the location, health condition and state of each vehicle occupant. The non-intrusive sensing system is a small RF radar that can be integrated anywhere in a vehicle cabin. Through its sophisticated radar signaling processing algorithm, the system detects seat occupancy state and monitors passenger biometrics, including respiration rate, heart rate and heart rate variability. CAARESYS technology allows for highly accurate sensing even in the constantly fluctuating driving environment and can operate in static or driving mode.

“It’s with excitement and pride that we join the HARMAN team, especially at this time when they are doing so much to transform what the in-cabin experience can be for consumers,” said Ilya Sloushch, co-founder and CEO of CAARESYS, who will now lead the newly established In-Cabin Radar team at HARMAN. “HARMAN’s successful partnerships with leading automakers will offer unprecedented scale and reach for our technologies and extend the benefits enabled by in-cabin radar to more drivers and passengers than ever before.”

CAARESYS employees will join HARMAN as part of the company’s Automotive division. “We extend a warm welcome to our new team members,” said Sobottka, “and we look forward to launching the new products that the CAARESYS team and technology will enable in the HARMAN portfolio.”

Domenico Tedesco sacked by RB Leipzig only months after DFB Pokal win

0

RB Leipzig have sacked head coach Domenico Tedesco following their 4-1 defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League. The German spent ten months in charge of the club, and helped them win their first major trophy in the DFB Pokal last season.

But only months after their triumph in the German cup, he has been removed from his position. The domestic season has not started well for the team either, who have just one win from their first five games in the Bundesliga.

RB Leipzig part ways with Domenico Tedesco

“RB Leipzig have parted company with Domenico Tedesco with immediate effect. Assistant coaches Andreas Hinkel and Max Urwantschky have also left the club. RB Leipzig will announce his successor in due course,” the club announced on their official social media handles.

The 36-year-old took over from Jesse Marsch in December 2021, and reached the semi-finals of the Europa League. However, they eventually bowed out to Rangers who were defeated in the finals by Eintracht Frankfurt. Leipzig also lost to Bayern Munich in the DFB Super Cup against Bayern Munich, which further affected their confidence.

Former Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach head coach Marco Rose is currently the frontrunner to take up the job.

Kotak Mahindra Bank introduces Face Authentication-based e-KYC

Aadhaar Based Face Authentication to Offer a Seamless Digital Onboarding Experience to Customers

Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited (KMBL) today announced the launch of the Aadhaar-based e-KYC of the client using face authentication. Kotak is one of the first banks to go live with enabling client onboarding via face authentication-based e-KYC. The authentication is done via a mobile app newly developed by UIDAI, and no additional device is required to perform the authentication. Further, it brings forth the convenience of significant time-saving as it takes only a few minutes to complete the entire authentication process.

Currently, Kotak Mahindra Bank has offered this service to all savings account holders onboarding via partner channels like BSS Microfinance and plans to extend this service to other channels in due course. The Aadhaar-based face authentication method is used as an alternative to the currently used fingerprint authentication on Kotak Bank Digital Savings Account. Customers who visit the branch can provide consent for completing their KYC using Aadhaar-based authentication.

They will be authenticated using the Aadhaar authentication process as prescribed in the bank regulations. A successful face authentication confirms that the physical face being scanned for verification matches the one that was taken at the time of enrollment of the Aadhaar number and verifies the identity of the person.

Puneet Kapoor, President-Products, Alternative Channels and Customer Experience Delivery,  Kotak Mahindra Bank said, “Kotak Mahindra Bank believes in using the latest technology to bring in new and improved digital banking solutions to our customers. We would like to thank UIDAI  for introducing the face authentication app through which we can offer this seamless digital  onboarding to our customers”

Onboarding via face authentication-based e-KYC will further help to reduce the cost of acquiring as the cost pertaining to fingerprint device procurement and maintenance will go away. This modality will also provide resolution to fading fingerprint miniature capture issues and related failures, especially for sourcing in rural areas where farmer fingerprints change over a period of time.
