Arthur Melo starts for Liverpool U21s amidst exit rumours

0

There were rumours suggesting that Arthur Melo’s loan move could be cut short by Jurgen Klopp. The Brazilian hasn’t played a lot of football, which has concerned the German about his availability in competitive games.

However, Arthur recently played all 90 minutes for Liverpool’s Under 21s – his first in 129 days, in an attempt to regain match fitness. He helped the youth team earn all three points against Leicester City, and Klopp will be happy with the progress made so far.

Arthur Melo starts first game for Liverpool U21s

“He wasn’t in team training for a while at Juve, so he needs proper team training – and that’s what we are doing with him. Can he play minutes? Yes. Should he play a full game? No, because he needs to get used to the intensity in each competition,” Klopp said of Arthur Melo’s condition.

“It’s not like in the Champions League you have to work less than in the Premier League. Not at all, especially not here. He is doing well, he is really giving his absolute all in training, we have to be careful with him as well and then we will see whether we can use him.”

According to Fabrizio Romano, there are no talks of cutting his loan move short now or in January. Which means that he will soon be available and playing for Liverpool’s first team – and the international break should help him regain fitness while club football is suspended.

Samsung Smartphones might feature Satellite Connectivity soon

0

After Apple, Samsung might also be working on a Satellite connectivity SOS feature, and we might see this feature in its future smartphones. A new emergency function called satellite connection emerged with the recent release of Apple’s iPhone 14s.

When there is no cellular signal coverage, iPhone owners may reportedly utilize this capability to connect with the satellites and make an emergency call. A comparable function was made available by Huawei with the Mate 50 Series. It appears that Samsung will add satellite connectivity to the following Galaxy handsets.

Satellite Connectivity Feature To Come In Samsung Smartphone

With Apple hogging the vast majority of Globalstar’s network for its Emergency SOS feature on the iPhone 14 and future iPhones, Samsung may have to turn to another satellite connectivity provider. In its recent SEC filing, Globalstar reported that it will “provide 85% of its current and future network capacity” to Apple and will be reporting record revenues as a result, so we doubt there will be place for Samsung’s Galaxy birds to land on that particular perch any more.

By limited ways we mean it will take 15 seconds to send a simple SOS message in clear sky conditions, or several minutes during overcast, yet Apple will be investing millions in new Globalstar satellites to maintain and expand the service, so hopefully it will become more full-featured down the road. Still, the availability of satellite connectivity on your phone will become the norm in the future, and Samsung wouldn’t want to be left behind. As to whose service it would use, this remains a mystery.

Samsung Smartphones Might Feature Satellite Connectivity

According to a tipster, Samsung may have plans to add satellite connectivity to its forthcoming Galaxy handsets (Via Phonearena). It’s unknown if the Galaxy S23 cellphones will have access to this emergency capability. It’s important to note that Huawei released this functionality before Apple with its Mate50 series. According to the Chinese business, the Mate 50 and Mate 50 Pro smartphones would enable users to exchange brief text messages over China’s international BeiDou satellite network, enabling contact in places without connection.

According to Apple, the Emergency SOS function on the iPhone 14 and next iPhones utilizes the Globalstar network. Although we do not yet know whose provider Samsung will be using, it is likely not Globalstar, given that Apple has already employed 85% of its existing and future network capacity. But  Samsung hasn’t formally verified any specifics yet, and the satellite connectivity function is still just a rumor.

Emergency SOS via Satellite can also let you share your location via Find My, so your friends and family can see where you are when you’ve gone off-grid. The new Crash Detection system can also work in tandem with satellite connectivity, too, if you’re in a collision in a remote area, for instance.

BCCI to introduce an “Impact Player” in its T20 tournaments

0

The BCCI is set to introduce “Impact Player ” substitution in the T20 tournaments of the country. Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy that commences on October 11 and IPL 2023 will be having this implementation.

As per the norms, the teams can substitute one member of their playing XI during a match, if its fruitful for the team. The board will first try this rule in state cricket for teams and players to get used to it.

Further BCCI stated, “With the ever-growing popularity of T20 cricket, it is imperative that we look at introducing new dimensions which will make this format more attractive and interesting not only for our viewers but also the participating teams from a strategic viewpoint.”

The Impact Player will allow one substitute player per team to be more active in a match.

The Big Bash League of Australia concluded that the 12th or 13th player on the team sheet can come into the game after the 10th over of the first innings and replace who will be batting or has bowled more that one over. The substitute bowler can bowl a maximum of four overs when the player they’ve replaced has bowled. It has become mandatory to use Impact Player which can be introduced any time before the 14th over gets over in any of the innings.

As per the circular,  “Player who is replaced by an Impact Player can no longer take part in the remainder of the match and is also not permitted to return as a substitute fielder. If a player gets injured while fielding in mid over, the current playing condition prevails under 24.1 – substitute fielders,”

An injured player cannot take part in the match if the team introduces an Impact Player to replace him. Or else, he can be introduced after the completion of an over.

For the batting team, the Impact player will be introduced at the fall of a wicket or during the break of innings. The team needs to notify the fourth umpire in this aspect.

The other team has to hold back its Impact Player option before the innings break to strengthen their batting depth or may even introduce the Impact player who provides other bowling alternatives.

Made in India smartphone shipments rose by 16% YoY in Q2 2022

0

According to Canalys, in Q2 2022, Indian smartphone shipments reached 36.4 million units, a 5% drop from the previous quarter, with major brands struggling to shift units as consumer demand dwindled.

But as Q2 2021 was affected by the second COVID wave, the year-over-year comparison seems very positive, with shipments up by 12%. Xiaomi retained its market-leading position, shipping 7.0 million units, despite experiencing another quarter of both annual and sequential decline.

Indian smartphone shipments rose in Q2 2022

The latest data from research firm Counterpoint has shown that Indian-made smartphone shipments grew by 16% in Q2 2022 from the corresponding performance in 2021. The growth in Made in India smartphone shipments is being driven partly by a strong incentive framework put in place by the central government.

Made in India smartphone shipments rose by 16% YoY in Q2 2022

The Counterpoint data showed that Indian-made smartphone shipments for April-June 2022 were over 44 million units. The Q2 figure exceeded both the Q1 performance and the corresponding Q2 figures from 2021. A total of 36.4 million smartphones were shipped in India in Q2 this year. This is the third consecutive quarter of falling shipments in India for the smartphone market.

Among the recorded data, Xiaomi retained its top position by shipping 7 million units, while Samsung and Realme took second and third spots with 6.7 and 6.1 million shipments, respectively. However, the report also mentions that the year-over-year Indian smartphone shipment comparison seems very positive, and is up by 12 percent. The reason for this can be the low shipements in the second quarter of 2021 due to the second COVID wave, as per the report.

When comparing the market share in Q2 2021 and Q2 2022, it gives a YoY growth in market share or a downtrend. Apparently, the Ultra Premium segment (with prices above $1,000) has increased from 12% to 26% whereas the second band of devices priced between $800-$899 has diminished by 37% from 22% to 15% in Q2 2022.

In terms of production, TWS earphones dominated the domestic wearable ecosystem with 16%, followed by neckbands and smartwatches. The active interventions by the Indian government were highlighted as a major driving factor for the surge. India continues to attract manufacturers and investors as it gradually firms up its place in the global tech market.

“The growth came from multiple sales events such as Republic Day and Valentine’s Day, combined with online exclusive offers,” the report said. Offline channel shipments declined 13 per cent YoY. “Despite no major Covid-related restrictions on movement, the retail footfall remained low through the quarter,” it said.

Flipkart partners with eDAO for a ‘Digital Treasure Hunt’ in the run-up to The Big Billion Days

0

Flipkart, India’s biggest homegrown e-commerce marketplace, today announced a partnership with eDAO, a Polygon-incubated organisation that designs and launches global art, media and entertainment IPs at scale into the world of Web3. The partnership will bring alive the first ever Big Billion Days (BBD) digital treasure hunt on Firedrops, Flipkart’s simple-to-use, KYC-compliant NFT platform for brands and creators to enter the universe of Digital Collectibles. The platform was launched earlier this year with the announcement of a partnership with Nothing for the first NFT drop on FireDrops. The digital treasure hunt will span 10 days leading up to The Big Billion Days in 2022 (over September 17 – September 26).

Earlier, with the launch of Flipkart Labs, the company announced its intention to explore digital collectables and the metaverse to redefine the shopping experience for its users and incubate solutions hosted on blockchain technology in the e-commerce space.

Naren Ravula, Vice President and Head of Product Strategy and Deployment, Flipkart, said, “Flipkart has always prioritised innovation across all facets of digital commerce. A key focus for us this year is to drive engagement during the run-up to Big Billion Days beyond the sale and discount-led constructs. By engaging with eDAO for the Digital Treasure Hunt, we are exploring an exciting avenue to add value to our customers and make the experience richer.”

The Firedrops treasure hunt will enable users to have access to limited edition collectables termed ‘Culture Sparks’ through a gamified interface. Users will complete daily tasks to win rewards sponsored by brands on Flipkart as they go further in their 10-day gamified experience journey (September 17 – September 26) during The Big Billion Days event based on the number of Culture Sparks they collect. The limited-edition collectables come from a host of artists, IPs and partner brands on eDAO’s roster. At the end of the 10-day celebration, shoppers will get exclusive access to ‘The Strand’, eDAO’s all-access passport to a global pop culture ecosystem, spanning art, sport, gaming, entertainment and more.

Adding more about the experience, Anand Venkateswaran, Chief Executive Officer, eDAO, stated, “Flipkart’s first-ever BBD digital treasure hunt will be an opportunity for Flipkart users to explore the world of Web3 based art, music and entertainment communities. This partnership provides access for users to find their communities and engage deeply with culture on Web3.”

Both Flipkart and eDAO are working together to explore opportunities where they can give users an immersive and extensive experience of the Web3 and metaverse world.

To enable the technology for FireDrops as a platform including the innovative Digital Treasure Hunt game, Flipkart has partnered with Guardian Link.

“GuardianLink is an NFT ecosystem firm. Brands and celebrities leverage our ecosystem to launch their NFTs! We believe that NFTs are not about monetization but perpetual value creation. NFTs represent true ownership in the digital space, and it is bound to be the core of digital asset revolution when it comes to ownership and provenance.

It made absolute sense, therefore, to tap into our resources and expertise and work on the launch of the FireDrops platform. We are certain that FireDrops will amplify shopping experiences and bring the next wave of users to recognize the value-potential of Web3 and consequently, democratise NFTs in India,” stated Ramkumar Subramaniam, CEO & Co-Founder, GuardianLink.
