Sony announces Project Leonardo, its answer to the Xbox Adaptive Controller

0

Sony has revealed its plans for a more accessible PS5 controller, similar to the Xbox Adaptive Controller. The tech titan appears to have stolen Microsoft’s notion of an accessibility-focused controller and incorporated it into a new input method for the PS5.

The gaming accessibility movement has gained traction in recent years, led by organisations such as The AbleGamers Charity and SpecialEffect, who seek to enable impaired gamers enjoy their favourite hobby.

Microsoft launched the Xbox Adaptive Controller in 2018, which enables for the introduction of additional control options and third-party input peripherals for gamers who have difficulties using conventionally designed controllers. This was a significant move by Microsoft, highlighting the efforts of these campaigners and encouraging other console manufacturers to make their own excursions into first-party controllers centred on accessibility.

Many people have been waiting for Sony, Microsoft’s main competitor in the console business, to make more efforts toward accessible controllers in the four years since the release of the Xbox Adaptive Controller.

Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan revealed Project Leonardo for PS5, a configurable controller kit created in collaboration with accessibility specialists and groups such as The AbleGamers Charity, SpecialEffect, and Stack Up, during a press conference at CES 2023.

According to a post on the PlayStation blog, Project Leonardo will have button mapping options, different controller profiles, and compatibility with third-party peripherals, all while still working “out of the box.” It will be able to be used alone or in conjunction with another Project Leonardo controller and DualSense controller that “can be used together as a single virtual controller.” Third-party accessories will be connectable via four 3.5mm AUX ports on the device’s bottom, similar to the ports on the Xbox Adaptive Controller.

One notable feature of Project Leonardo is how extremely configurable it is, since players may vary the distance between the analogue stick and the rest of the controller. It is evident that Sony remains committed to making its software and hardware accessible to as many players as possible following its efforts to include accessibility in God of War Ragnarok and The Last of Us Part 1.

Project Leonardo is Sony or Nintendo’s first big advancement in hardware accessibility since the Xbox Adaptive Controller. Although former Nintendo executive Reggie Fils-Aime indicated that Nintendo has intentions to create its own version of the Xbox Adaptive Controller, this has yet to happen. Sony is reiterating the significance of accessibility in the gaming industry with this news, and organisations and advocates deserve credit for their work in bringing these concerns to light.

Afeela: The New Sony-Honda EV Hybrid

The Afeela new EV concept was introduced by Sony and Honda’s joint mobility business on Wednesday at Sony’s presentation at CES 2023 in Las Vegas. The brand will be on the joint venture’s first electric vehicle in production when it goes on sale in North America in 2026.

Sony Honda Mobility CEO Yasuhide Mizuno claimed the automobile would take advantage of Sony’s experience with Artificial Intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality, and entertainment to deliver a different EV.

Afeela: Everything you Need To Know About The New Sony-Honda EV Hybrid

In order to improve the car’s capability for object detection and autonomous driving, more than 40 sensors, including lidar, ultrasonic, radar, and cameras, will be integrated throughout the body of the vehicle. Affinity, Augmentation, and Autonomy are the three key elements that Afeela will try to encapsulate, according to Mizuno.

6 Afeela: The New Sony-Honda EV Hybrid

The prototype that was unveiled on stage differed significantly from the idea that Sony first presented at CES three years prior. Instead, it was a sedan with a high-gloss black roof, a headlight across the front, and an enclosed grille. Some of the more intriguing exterior elements included a light accent over the wheel wells and black hubcaps. Many individuals compared the Afeela prototype to a combination between the Porsche 911 and the Lucid Air.

2 6 Afeela: The New Sony-Honda EV Hybrid

The new EV will be priced to rival models from BMW, Audi, Volvo, and Mercedes-Benz as well as other luxury automakers. As per Sony, its software will presumably offer subscriptions, indicating car owners will most likely have to pay a monthly fee to access specific features.

Sony stunned CES attendees three years ago by unveiling the classy Vision-S concept car. The Vision-pillar-to-pillar S’s touchscreen displays an emphasis on entertainment and music were intended to demonstrate what a Sony car would look like in the future. It assured everyone that this wasn’t what it had aimed to achieve.

3 5 Afeela: The New Sony-Honda EV Hybrid

It found out that wasn’t entirely true. Early in 2022, rumors began to circulate that Honda and Sony were establishing a joint venture, particularly with the objective of producing and selling electric vehicles. Although no details regarding the planned volume have been revealed, the Sony-Honda automobiles will be produced in one of Honda’s 12 US sites. The US will launch EV sales in 2026, with Japan and Europe following later. Preorders are rumored to start in 2025.

In other ways, Sony sees vehicles in general, and electric vehicles in particular, as a key platform for its technology and entertainment offerings going forward. But it’s not satisfied with designing its operating system similar to Apple’s and Google’s or licensing its software and hardware to automakers.

It also wants input into how things are designed and developed. For a manufacturer that has never made vehicles before, it is particularly dangerous and expensive. Take a peek at Dyson. Just because you produce exceptionally excellent non-automotive goods doesn’t guarantee your abilities will automatically transfer to the automotive industry.

Honda is creating its own line-up of EVs, with the Prologue, which is being created in partnership with General Motors. The Prologue is Honda’s first long-range EV aimed at the North-American market, and it’s anticipated to be on sale in 2024. It is the first of 30 hybrid battery-electric fuel-cell vehicles that Honda claims will be available by the end of the decade. Both the Prologue and an unknown 2024 Acura car based on Honda’s Precision concept unveiled earlier this year will be powered by GM’s Ultium platform.

ASUS joins hands with Intel to offer Supernova SoM Chip Packaging for its Laptops

ASUS and Intel have collaborated to create the Supernova SoM chip package for laptops, which combines the latest Intel CPU die with LPDDR5X memory on the same package. The Supernova SoM ‘System on Module’ design, announced alongside the ASUS ZenBook Pro 16X laptop, takes the latest Intel 13th Gen CPU dies and combines LPDDR5X memory on the same interposer for a complete package that not only offers a reduction in PCB area but also enables a simpler (lower z-height) and stronger layout.

ASUS was able to optimise the power, ground, and data layers to properly match the motherboard architecture and chassis because of this design process.

ASUS has achieved this by allowing up to 155W of combined CPU and GPU power within the same chassis dimensions while lowering the motherboard core (PCB) area by 38%. (50x60mm vs 44.7x42mm). This revolutionary SOC package not only reduces motherboard area but also enables improved cooling solutions and pushes the GPU VRM to new heights, allowing for quicker graphics performance. This allows for a 15% boost in TGP over prior-gen designs.

Using liquid metal TIM lowers the operating temperature by 7 degrees Celsius. Aside from the inside design, the ASUS ZenBook Pro X16 OLED laptop features a variety of techniques such as Intel’s 13th Gen CPUs, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Laptop GPUs with Studio-Grade drivers, and a design tailored to content makers.

Intel Arc Desktop Roadmap leaks Online

An alleged Intel Arc Desktop Graphics roadmap has been revealed, indicating Alchemist+ GPUs in 2H 2023 and Battlemage GPUs in 2024. Raja Koduri has stated on numerous occasions that they are not abandoning their discrete GPUs or desktop graphics card lineup. RedGamingTech appears to have unearthed a pretty legitimate-looking roadmap that outlines Intel’s upcoming desktop graphics for 2023 and 2024. The roadmap appears to be rather recent, as it includes all of the existing Alchemist SKUs as well as a couple that have yet to be launched.

The latest speculations concerning an Intel Arc Alchemist GPU upgrade appear to be real. According to the roadmap leak, the new lineup will be known as the ‘Alchemist+’ family and will contain two GPU SKUs, the ACM+ G21 and the ACM+ G20. The ACM+ G21 series will be aimed at high-end graphics cards with TDP ratings ranging from 175-225W, and the ACM+ G20 series will be aimed at entry-level designs with 75-100W discrete graphics devices.

What’s intriguing is that the ACM-G21 will be the high-end Alchemist GPU’s successor to the ACM-G10, while the ACM-G11 will be the low-end Alchemist GPU’s successor. This could be related to the chip’s manufacture, implying that the entry-level GPU was designed before the G21 GPU.

Intel intends to release two mid-tier SKUs under the existing Arc Alchemist graphics card range, aimed at the 150W sector.

Both GPUs are expected to have 6 GB of RAM and will be classified as performance or mainstream. It should be noted that Intel has yet to release its Arc A580 GPU for desktop PCs. Intel intends to go big next year with the release of two powerful GPUs aimed at the enthusiast dGPU category. The Xe2 dGPU architecture will be used by these two GPUs, which will be part of the Battlemage family. According to the roadmap, early enabling of the Battlemage GPUs is anticipated for Q1’24, with the first GPUs arriving in the middle of 2024.

The enthusiast-tier BMG-G10 GPU will ship with a TDP of 225W in the Arc B-Series ‘Battlemage’ portfolio, while the BMG-G21 GPU will target the performance segment with 150 Watt TDP designs.

  • Next-Gen Memory Subsystem & Compression
  • Improved Ray Tracing
  • Micro-Architecture improvements
  • Next-Gen ML-based rendering tech
  • Latest DeepLink capabilities
  • Targeting Performance/Enthusiast Gaming

It will be some time before we hear more from Intel, as they recently held their CES 2023 keynote and gave us no further update on the Arc GPU family or any new discrete graphics cards, but there are plenty of events scheduled during the first half of 2023 where the company could just give us the next-big update on its Arc GPU family.

Geronimo Rulli to sign for Ajax in the coming days for €10m

0

Villarreal goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli will be joining Ajax in the coming days. The Argentine will be making the move for a fee worth €10 million, after winning the 2022 World Cup with Argentina. He was the second-choice goalkeeper behind Emi Martinez, and is now on his way to the Netherlands.

The 30-year-old was the hero of Villarreal’s 2021 Europa League win – the first trophy in the history of the club. He helped the Yellow Submarine overcome Manchester United following a heated penalty shootout, and is now on his way out of the club to take up a new challenge.

Geronimo Rulli to join Ajax in the coming days

“The truth is it all happened very quickly, we all wanted to do our part for it to turn out this way, and that’s how it did,” Geronimo Rulli told reporters at the club’s training ground on Thursday, per Spanish newspaper AS.

“It was good for the club, for me as well, and Ajax were very interested.

“I am happy for the achievements in these years here, for the path I have taken and I am very excited for what is coming now.”

“I will never forget that moment in my life, each time I think about it, my hairs stand on end,” added the goalkeeper, speaking about the 2021 Europa League win.

“It was a hard decision to take (to leave), there is nowhere I feel more comfortable than here, that’s something I saw before I came.

“But I am happy for the step that I will take in my career and I will miss (everyone here) a lot.”

IND vs SL 2nd T20: Sri Lanka defeats India by 16 runs to level the series 1-1

India was chasing a target of 207 runs but ultimately fell short of 16 runs. The top-order failed but a run stand of 91 between Axar Patel and Suryakumar Yadav kept the hopes alive. Earlier, Dasun Shanaka from Sri Lanka mustered an unbeaten 56 off 22 deliveries and Kusal Mendis smashed 52 off 31 balls. Among the Indian bowlers, Umran Malik shined as he gave 58 runs in four overs but scalped three wickets. Both the teams have one match each and the last one will decide the winner.

Indian skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first. Kusal Mendis and Dasub Shanaka’s half-centuries helped Sri Lanka post 200 plus run in 20 overs. Mendis scored a 50 in 27 deliveries while Shanka finished at an unbeaten 56 runs in 22 deliveries. Sri Lanka started on a strong note as the openers added 80 runs in 8.2 wickets. After the first wicket, the visitors started losing wickets at regular intervals but soon Shanaka took the chance and helped his team post a total of 206 runs. In the 2nd innings, the openers couldn’t show their magic but Suryakumar Yadav and Axar Patel’s put some effort into the game to win it but everything went in vain. In the powerplay, Hardik Pandya got out for 12, but Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav helped things get better. Sooner, Hasaranga dismissed Hooda at 9 runs. Before Suryakumar was removed for 51, he and Axar Patel had stitched together a stand of more over 90 in 36 balls. The latter was out in the last over for 65 in 31.

The third T20 which will give a winner will be held on January 7, 2022.

Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea: Talks collapse after €85 million lowball

Chelsea’s pursuit of Enzo Fernandez has seemingly hit a roadblock. Benfica have been insistent on the fact that his price tag is his release clause worth €120 million. But, the Premier League side have never discussed paying the entire clause in one go.

There were plans for them to pay extra, with a fee worth €127 million being discussed which would be paid in instalments. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, the final bid from the Blues was worth only €85 million.

Enzo Fernandez offer from Chelsea turned down

“There is a club that wants him, they tried to attract him, but they know that they can only have him if they pay the clause,” Benfica coach Roger Schmidt said on Thursday.

“It’s disrespectful to all of us, to Benfica, they’re driving the player crazy, they pretend they want to pay the clause and then they want to negotiate.”

Talks between the two clubs have seemingly collapsed after the bid from Chelsea. Although Enzo Fernandez has agreed personal terms for a move to England, it will not be possible without the release clause being triggered.

Fernandez would become the most expensive signing in the history of the English top flight if he were to join for €120 million. And while he is keen on leaving Benfica in January itself, it will not be possible without Chelsea reaching an agreement.

Chelsea sign Benoit Badiashile from Monaco for €37m

0

Chelsea have completed the signing of Benoit Badiashile from Monaco, and have announced his arrival on their social media accounts. The centre-back has signed for the Blues for a fee worth €37 million, and has agreed a massive seven-and-a-half year deal until June 2030.

The 21-year-old was the alternative to RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, who earned a great reputation during the 2022 World Cup. The move for the Croatian was deemed too expensive, and the West London have signed Badiashile instead.

Benoit Badiashile officially joins Chelsea

“I’m very happy to be here at Chelsea. I’m so excited to start playing for this club,” Badiashile said in a statement on the club’s official website. “I can’t wait to see the fans and start playing in the best league in the world.”

“We’re delighted to welcome Benoit to Chelsea,” Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly and co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali said in a joint statement.

“He’s an excellent young player who has quickly established a strong reputation for himself and has a huge amount of experience for his young age. We are sure he will form an important part of our team in the years ahead.”

Benoit Badiashile joins Christopher Nkunku, Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana as the three signings that Chelsea have made recently. Since he is still very young, fans will be expecting him to stay at the club for a very long time especially considering the length of his contract.

Bethany England joins Tottenham Hotspur women in WSL record deal worth £250k

0

Tottenham Hotspur women have signed Bethany England in a record deal worth £250,000. The deal beats the previous record set by Chelsea themselves to sign Lauren James from Manchester United in 2021, at £200,000.

The new signing has put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half year deal with the Lilywhites. And she ends a seven year spell with the Blues, signing for one of their biggest rivals in a rather heartbreaking goodbye for the faithful.

Bethany England signs for Tottenham Hotspur women

One of the main reasons behind the switch across London is due to the lack of playing time. She has only played six times this season, but is considered a legend for the club – scoring 73 goals in 163 appearances for Chelsea.

Spurs are in a difficult position in the WSL right now, having been on a four-match losing streak. They have scored eleven goals in nine games, but eight of them were in the same game.

She was a part of the England squad that won the Euros this summer, and has earned 21 caps for the Three Lionesses, scoring 11 goals during that time.

Spurs will hence be hopeful that the arrival of a proven goalscorer like Bethany England will help their form in front of goal.

AMD introduces its range of Affordable yet Powerful Ryzen 7000 Zen 4 Desktop CPUs

AMD unveils additional cheap Ryzen 7000 AM5 Desktop CPU options including the Ryzen 9 7900, Ryzen 7 7700, and Ryzen 5 7600. AMD has introduced three new Ryzen 7000 Non-X Desktop CPU models: the Ryzen 9 7900 with 12 cores, the Ryzen 7 7700 with 8 cores, and the Ryzen 5 7600 with 6 cores. The three new models will use the Zen 4 core architecture and have a TDP of 65W, which is significantly lower than the ‘X’ parts, while maintaining the same core combinations and Zen 4 core architecture.

The AMD Ryzen 9 7900 processor will have 12 cores, 24 threads, 76 MB of cache (64 MB L3 + 12 MB L3), and a maximum clock speed of 5.4 GHz.

The CPU will cost $429 USD, which is $120 USD more than the Ryzen 9 7900X. While the base clock remains unknown, the boost clock has been reduced by 200 MHz, but given the price point, this 12-core processor looks great, and no doubt a lot of people will be upgrading to this sub-$500 US 12-Core Zen 4 chip. AMD will place the processor alongside the Intel Core i9-13900 and Core i9-12900 CPUs.

AMD

The Ryzen 7 7700 will have 8 cores, 16 threads, 40 MB of cache (32 MB L3 + 8 MB L3), and a maximum clock speed of 5.3 GHz. The CPU will cost $329 USD, which is $70 USD less than the Ryzen 7 7700X, which costs $399 USD. Given its 65W power budget, the Ryzen 7 7700 appears to be clocked just 100 MHz lower than the Ryzen 7 7700X. Given the 1.375x multiplier for the PPT, the total TDP should be approximately 90-100W. The Ryzen 7 7700 will compete with the Core i7-13700 and Core i7-12700 processors.
