Elon Musk has announced an $8/month Twitter Blue subscription that’ll include a verified blue checkmark for anyone and everyone who pays. The price will be adjusted “by country proportionate to purchasing power parity,” said Musk.

Apart from the coveted blue tick, paying Twitter Blue subscribers will also gain priority in replies, mentions, and searches, the ability to post long videos & audio clips, and half as many ads. There will be a secondary tag for anyone who is a public figure, Musk noted in his announcement thread on Twitter.

Twitter’s new boss Elon Musk announced Twitter Blue, a paid version of the social media platform that is currently available for a limited set of users, will be available at $8 per month and will include a verification badge. For those who are complaining on the platform, Musk sent out a message for them too. He said, “To all complainers, please continue complaining, but it will cost $8.”

Twitter currently doesn’t charge to verify accounts with a blue check mark, and the badge is supposed to be given out to accounts that the company determines are “notable, authentic and active.” The blue check mark is meant to help users determine if an account of a celebrity, journalist or other public figure is fake or not.

Hiring in the IT sector slowed during the holiday season

The information technology sector in India is slowing down. The industry that added the most employment over the previous two years is currently experiencing a downturn in hiring. When compared to last year’s holiday season, hiring was down 18% in October, according to the Naukri Jobspeak index report.

Bangalore, India’s IT capital, experienced the largest decline in hiring in the IT sector this October as compared to the same month last year, with a 16% decrease. During the same time span, Pune (11%) and Hyderabad (12%) also had a comparable trend.

Indian IT giants reduced employment in the second quarter by at least 57%. TCS was second with a cut of 58%, and Wipro claimed the highest cut of 95%. Despite the high rate of attrition in the IT sector, this is the case. The greatest attrition rates were recorded by Infosys and HCL Tech, at 27% and 23%, respectively.

Slow Hiring by the Sectors

Other than the IT industry, the telecom and healthcare industries also had a considerable fall in hiring sentiment in October of this year compared to the previous year of 19% and 13%, respectively.

The short slowdown in hiring activity was anticipated given the holiday season, according to Naukri.com Chief Business Officer Pawan Goyal. However, when you compare the statistics with the holiday window from the previous year (Nov. 21), the Index is a solid 13% ahead, which is comforting.

Comparatively, over this Christmas season, hiring in India’s insurance sector increased by an astounding 93% year over year. Some of the other industries that have continued to demonstrate positive trends this season are BFSI, oil, travel & hospitality, real estate, and auto.

Goyal continued that it is fascinating to observe that most important industries continued to expand hiring during this month, and that trend is likely to continue as year-end draws near.

About the Hiring Activities

Comparing this holiday season to the previous year, the growth graph for hiring activities in the national capital was determined to remain unchanged. While Kolkata and Mumbai, two other major cities, kept expanding by 8% and 15%, respectively. According to the survey, the need for white-collar workers increased in non-metros like Jaipur, Kochi, Vadodara, and Coimbatore.

While the demand for senior professionals with over 13 years of experience increased by 6% over the previous year, the demand for experienced professionals as a whole remained unchanged in October of this year. Demand for mid-level professionals (4 to 12 years experience) decreased by 4%, while demand for recent graduates remained unchanged.

Invests Rs 600 crores to increase its current capacity to 19,500 MT by 2023

Attero Recycling, India’s largest electronic waste recycling and the world’s largest Li-ion battery recycling company, today announced that it will invest ₹600 crores to set up a state-of-the-art integrated Lithium-ion battery recycling factory in Telangana. The facility will be spread over 50 acres and will increase Attero’s Li-Ion battery recycling capacity to 19,500 MT by the end of 2023 from its current capacity of 4,500 MT. 

Attero has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Telangana Government to strengthen the li-ion battery recycling ecosystem in the country and establish a hub for Li-Ion battery recycling for its India operations. The new facility will provide direct employment to over 400 people and over 1,100 indirectly. 

Shri KT Rama Rao, Hon’ble Minister for IT & Industries, Telangana, said, “Telangana has been a pioneer in fostering a climate that would encourage the use of zero-emission vehicles. We were one of the first states to introduce the ‘EV & ESS’ policy in 2020. The EV ecosystem is thriving in the state and we are glad that Attero will also be a significant part of the ecosystem. We are happy that the company is investing to establish a new facility in Telangana that will generate employment opportunities.”

Garmin Sharpens Its Focus on India, Appoints New Country Head

Garmin India, a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN) strengthens its presence in India and continues to grow in double-digits. Backed up by its popular range of smartwatches in the fitness and wellness segment, the brand aims to boost its business continuously in India.

To drive growth and development, the brand has announced the appointment of Mr. Yeshudas Pillai as the new Country Head for its India operations. With this appointment, the brand wants to intensify its focus to reach a larger set of audience, speed up growth initiatives and elevate its brand positioning.

Addressing the occasion, Mr. Sky Chen, Regional Director, South-East Asia & India said, ‘At Garmin, we firmly believe in prioritizing the needs of our consumers. We see great potential in the Indian market where we’ve recorded 32% YoY Growth till Q3 2022 as per Garmin Connect. Venu series from the wellness segment contributed the most with a 65% YoY growth till Q3 2022 as per Garmin Connect. We have seen a growth in the preference for mid high range ($300 and above) smartwatches over the last couple of years in India. Looking at this trend, we are bullish on the premium segment and plan to expand our offerings. Also, there is a sharp increase in the activity trend, where we see uptake in outdoor activities which resonates well with our product line. For Garmin, we see India becoming one of the top 3 markets in the Asia region in the next 5 years.”

After setting the precedent with its quality and premium products, Garmin currently has brand stores in Delhi NCR, Bangalore and Pune. The brand aims to expand its presence across markets by opening brand stores which will also double up as a service collection point by the end of 2023. Garmin has been known for cutting-edge GPS navigation products for almost three decades. Some of the recently launched product offerings in India, embodies Garmin’s philosophy of offering users with compelling design and superior quality at a competitive price. With an aim to strengthen its positioning across India, the brand will bolster its data monitoring mechanism with ‘Garmin Health API’.

The appointment of Mr. Pillai will be based in Delhi, India. In his new role, he will be driving stakeholder engagement, growth, and development of the brand in India. With over 16 years of experience, Mr. Pillai has worked for prestigious consumer electronics, consumer durables, FMCG and premium lifestyle brands.
