BGMS 2026 has officially begun, but two of India’s biggest BGMI names are missing from Day 1. GodLike Esports and Orangutan, arguably the country’s most decorated rosters, won’t touch the BGMS 2026 lobby until August 21—not due to injury, controversy, or roster issues, but because of a genuinely unprecedented scheduling collision happening 7,000 kilometers away in Paris.

Why GodLike and Orangutan Are Missing

Both teams are currently competing at the PUBG Mobile World Cup, running as part of the Esports World Cup in Paris from August 6 to 16. Having come through a group stage that concluded on Sunday, both squads have advanced to the Grand Finals, scheduled for August 14 to 16 with 16 teams competing for a share of a $3.025 million prize pool.

This marks the first time India has ever sent two teams to a PUBG Mobile World Cup Grand Finals, making the scheduling conflict with BGMS 2026 an unusually significant problem for Nodwin Gaming to navigate.

An Impossible Calendar Clash

BGMS League Week 1 runs from today until August 13, followed immediately by the Bounty Weekend from August 14 to 16—the same dates as the PMWC Grand Finals. As the report bluntly puts it, there is no version of the calendar where the same players could compete in both events simultaneously.

Nodwin’s solution was straightforward: GodLike and Orangutan have been handed direct entry into Super Weekend 1 on August 21, joining a tournament already 11 days old and expanding the full field to 26 teams.

A Tournament Built for Endurance

BGMS Season 5 will run until September 6, 2026, with 24 teams initially competing across a demanding multi-stage format. Described as close to a month of near-continuous LAN play, the format has been deliberately built to reward consistency over one-off spikes in performance.

The 24 starting teams are divided into three groups for League Week 1, each playing 16 matches over four days, with the top 16 squads advancing to the Bounty Weekend. This grueling structure means GodLike and Orangutan’s late entry, despite their pedigree, presents a genuine competitive challenge.

Who’s Playing While the Giants Are Away

The field starting today includes most of the names Indian BGMI fans regularly tune in for: Team Soul, 8Bit, Revenant XSpark, Reckoning Esports, Team Tamilas, Gladiators Esports, K9 Esports, and Nebula Esports, alongside rosters like Apex Gaming, Genesis Esports, Wyld Fangs, and Elite Nova.

Notably, K9 Esports enters as the defending champion, having won BGMS Season 4 in Delhi NCR and taken home roughly ₹60 lakh from the previous season’s 1.5 crore prize pool.

Why This Matters for Indian Esports

The GodLike-Orangutan absence at BGMS 2026’s opening highlights how Indian BGMI esports has matured to a point where domestic and international calendars now genuinely collide—a problem that simply didn’t exist a few years ago when Indian teams rarely reached global stages simultaneously.

Final Thoughts

BGMS 2026 kicking off without its two biggest names creates a fascinating subplot: will GodLike and Orangutan’s international pedigree be enough to overcome an 11-day head start deficit against India’s hungriest domestic rosters? With the tournament running through September 6 and a ₹1 crore prize pool on the line, this season promises high stakes from day one.
