Mahendra Singh Dhoni has shocked all the Indians by announcing his retirement on India’s 74th Independence Day. One of the greatest ever captains has called it quit.
Dhoni is the only captain who has won all the ICC limited-overs tournaments. He won the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup, 2011 ICC ODI World Cup and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.
He started his India journey back in 2004. And after 15 years he has announced his retirement from international cricket.
In 2014 he retired from Test cricket and from “1929 hours” on Saturday, Dhoni has retired from limited-overs cricket as well.
Captain. Legend. Inspiration.🌟

As former #TeamIndia captain @msdhoni retires from international cricket, we wish him the very best and thank him for the wonderful memories. 🇮🇳👏#ThankYouMSDhoni 💙 pic.twitter.com/ks70z4FYNL
MS Dhoni is a huge fan of football star, Cristiano Ronaldo. He wore the No 7 jersey inspired by him. But he has himself made the No 7 jersey legendary in the cricket world. So players and fans have urged BCCI to retire Dhoni’s jersey No 7.
Unlike football, jersey number is not retired in cricket. But after Sachin Tendulkar retired, BCCI has unofficially retired the No 10 jersey. So the fans and players now want the same thing with Dhoni’s No 7.
Dinesh Kartik wrote on Twitter: “This is the last photo taken after our semis at the World Cup.lots of great memories through this journey. I hope the @bcci retire the #7 jersey in white ball cricket.”
“Good luck with your second innings in life , I’m sure you’ll have a lot of surprises for us there too.”
