India-China tension is growing more gradually. China attacked the Indian soldiers at the LAC in Galwan Valley in Eastern Ladakh on Monday night. This has caused outrage in the country and the “Boycott Chinese Products” movement is getting louder day-by-day.

Previously, BCCI treasurer, Arun Dhumal said the governing body will not consider taking Chinese firms on board in future as national interest comes ahead of everything else. But until then, BCCI will honour its existing deals with its sponsor.

The Indian public on social media has created “Boycott Chinese Products” movement and they have demanded, Chinese smartphone manufacturer VIVO to be removed from the title sponsor of IPL.

Indian Premier League’s Governing Council on Friday announced that they have convened a meeting next week to review IPL’s various sponsorship deals in the wake of the India-China border skirmish.

IPL published a statement on their official Twitter account, stating: “Taking note of the border skirmish that resulted in the martyrdom of our brave jawans, the IPL Governing Council has convened a meeting next week to review IPL’s various sponsorship deals.”

BCCI had signed a 5-year deal in 2018 with VIVO for the title sponsorship of IPL. VIVO pays Rs 440 crores per season. This deal has come under the lens as the whole country has come together under the “Boycott Chinese Products” movement.

Some of the other board sponsors like PayTM (Title Sponsor of Indian Cricket), Dream XI (Associate Sponsor) has Chinese investors on board. Many Indian stars are also brand ambassadors of Chinese products. They have come under scrutiny as well.

One of the BCCI officials said: “If there is a directive from the government that no Chinese product or services will be allowed in the country, BCCI will be happy to adhere to it. But in the absence of any such order and if that money is being used in India, and for the betterment of Indian cricket, then I don’t see any issue with it.”

The Telecom Ministry of India has already ordered all telecom companies including BSNL, MTNL, Jio, Airtel and others to ban all Chinese deals and equipment. This is ultimately a smart move from the Indian government to cripple China in the business perspective and ultimately making the country less reliable for cheaper Chinese goods.
