The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is one of the cash-rich cricket boards across the globe. According to the reports, the Indian board was worth an enormous amount of INR 14,489.80 crore at the end of the financial year 2018-19, adding to that Rs 2,597.19 crore to its financial potent. However, the balance sheet of the year 2018-19 hasn’t been publicly announced, while the board is still busy preparing the earnings of the financial year 2019-20.

According to a report by IANS, more than half of the Rs 4,017.11 crore, the BCCI earned under “income” during the year was a majority from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 which is approximately INR 2,407.46. During the Financial Year of 2018-19, BCCI’s second-highest income was from media rights of the Indian team which was Rs 828 crore. At the same time, the BCCI incurred an expenditure of Rs 1,592.12 crore during the year.

“As per the Societies Act, under which the BCCI is registered, it should submit its balance sheet within six months of the end of each financial year, besides sharing it with its members (state associations), and the International Cricket Council. Without submitting its balance sheet with the ICC, the BCCI will not get its share of distributions from the world body,” a source told IANS.

BCCI’s other incomes include the Men’s senior international tournaments and tours and series, it hosted in the financial year 2018-19 and earned INR 446.26 crore from it, while it received interest from the bank of about INR 290.73 crore also and the income from the ICC/Asian Cricket Council is INR Rs 25.03 crore.

Moreover, from the past few years, BCCI’s income has gone up mainly because of the sale of the media rights of the Indian team for the bilateral Tests, ODIs, and T20 matches played at home, the IPL media rights, national team (jersey) sponsor, and series sponsor.

BCCI’s broadcast rights holder, Star India Network, pays BCCI Rs 43.20 crore per international home match. During the financial year 2018-19, India hosted 22 international games –seven Tests, 10 ODIs, and five T20s, which comes up with a total of Rs 950.40 crore, and for the telecast of IPL, STAR Network India, made a stupefying bid of Rs 16,347.50 crore for five years, which is Rs 54.50 crore per match.

Not only this, another source of earning for BCCI is the sponsors for the national team with a total of seven sponsors with Byju’s, the team sponsor, STAR Sports for the broadcaster, PayTM as the title sponsor, Hyundai, Dream11, and Ambuja Cement as the partners and kit sponsor with MPL Sports. Series sponsor PayTM pays Rs 2.42 crore per match, national team jersey sponsor, Oppo pays them Rs 4.61 crore per match, before Byju’s took over on September 5, 2019, to March 31, 2022.
