BCCI becomes the richest cricket board in the world worth INR 14,489 crores

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is one of the cash-rich cricket boards across the globe. According to the reports, the Indian board was worth an enormous amount of INR 14,489.80 crore at the end of the financial year 2018-19, adding to that Rs 2,597.19 crore to its financial potent. However, the balance sheet of the year 2018-19 hasn’t been publicly announced, while the board is still busy preparing the earnings of the financial year 2019-20.

According to a report by IANS, more than half of the Rs 4,017.11 crore, the BCCI earned under “income” during the year was a majority from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 which is approximately INR 2,407.46. During the Financial Year of 2018-19, BCCI’s second-highest income was from media rights of the Indian team which was Rs 828 crore. At the same time, the BCCI incurred an expenditure of Rs 1,592.12 crore during the year.

“As per the Societies Act, under which the BCCI is registered, it should submit its balance sheet within six months of the end of each financial year, besides sharing it with its members (state associations), and the International Cricket Council. Without submitting its balance sheet with the ICC, the BCCI will not get its share of distributions from the world body,” a source told IANS.

Moreover, from the past few years, BCCI’s income has gone up mainly because of the sale of the media rights of the Indian team for the bilateral Tests, ODIs, and T20 matches played at home, the IPL media rights, national team (jersey) sponsor, and series sponsor.
