After negotiating the signing of Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig earlier this year, Bayern Munich are set to raid the Red Bull outfit once again, only this time, for their most prized asset, manager Julian Nagelsmann.
Hansi Flick, the current Bayern Munich boss, is set to leave the club at the end of the season. After winning every available trophy in about 18 months of coaching the Bavarians, he is set to join the German national team once Joachim Low steps down after the European Championships at the end of the club season.
BILD Germany are reporting that Nagelsmann has agreed terms to join Bayern Munich, but nothing has been officially announced as of yet. Leipzig are going to ask for €25 million to terminate the contract of their manager and let him go at the end of the campaign.
Once the formalities are done between the two clubs, they could announce the deal as soon as in the next 48 hours, or even in the coming weeks. Leipzig are the only realistic rivals to Bayern Munich this season in the race for the Bundesliga. Announcing the news while the season hasn’t wrapped up would be a blow to the hopes of Leipzig fans too, and would be problematic.
Nagelsmann, at 33, is the single most promising managerial candidate in the world, and almost every club across Europe is in for his signature no matter the condition of their current managers.
Having managed to get Hoffenheim into the Champions League, and Leipzig into the semi finals of the tournament, what he will achieve with a team like Bayern Munich at his disposal is anybody’s guess, but silverware will surely follow.
