Bayer Leverkusen have set a new record in German football history by becoming the team with the longest unbeaten streak. Die Werkself have now gone 33 games without being defeated, overtaking the previous holders of the record, Bayern Munich.
Xabi Alonso’s side are also the favourites to end the hegemony of Die Roten when it comes to the Bundesliga title. They are now eleven points clear at the top of the table, although their rivals have a game in hand. And as a result, they are now emerging as the favourites to go on and end Bayern’s 11-year streak of winning the Bundesliga winner’s shield.

Alonso has quickly emerged as one of the top managers in Europe, especially after defeating Bayern 3-0 in a crucial game for the title race. He guided his team to a 2-2 draw earlier in the season, truly taking over from the record shield winners.

The Spaniard has refrained from addressing these rumours right now, insisting that he is committed to Leverkusen. But in the summer, he could have a difficult decision to make when it comes to his managerial career.
