Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen have taken one more step towards finishing the season unbeaten in all competitions. This weekend, they registered a 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt to extend their unbeaten run to 48 games across all competitions, matching Benfica’s run between December 1963 and February 1965.
If they can win their next game against Roma in the Europa League semifinal second leg, they will have the record for themselves and will have etched their name in the history books. Alongside it, they will also be the finalists of the Europa League, with the opportunity for a historic treble.

They are already in the DFB Pokal finals against Kaiserslautern, and head in as the favourites to win and add to their Bundesliga title. In the league, they have just two games to go in order to finish the league season unbeaten.
However, Xabi Alonso will likely urge his team to go forth and win all trophies. They already have a 2-0 advantage over Roma in the semifinals of the Europa League, and a draw will be enough to help them advance to the finals.
There, they will face one of Marseille or Atalanta based on the results of the other semifinal tie. And after being labelled “Neverkusen” for their tragic collapse in 2002, they could finally undo the damage done and claim their place as undefeated Champions.
