Last week, Battlefield 2042 was announced with a release date, which introduces a massive change – 128-players in a match. Now, EA has also revealed a gameplay trailer of Battlefield 2042 at the joint Xbox & Bethesda Games E3 Showcase. This trailer shows some new features that we haven’t seen in the previous Battlefield titles, including wingsuits and hot-swapping attachments, which were teased during the announcement of the game.
The gameplay shows that Battlefield 2042 is gonna be more similar to Battlefield 3 or Battlefield 4 than Battlefield V or Battlefield 1. You will see a huge map acquiring a large cityscape surrounded by dunes, where 128-players are fighting. Along with some unnamed weapons and vehicles, we get to see a player using a grappling hook to swing on top of a large construction crane.
This gameplay trailer put the spotlight on Battlefield 2042’s version of levolution, the mechanic from the previous Battlefield title that can transform the map as the game progresses. In this new Battlefield title, a few of these transformations will be caused by huge weather events, such as sandstorms or typhoons.
It seems that Battlefield 2042 has multiple callbacks to Battlefield 3 and 4. The jet stunt we have seen (where a pilot ejected himself from the pilot seat to shoot another jet with a rocket launcher and land back in his jet) in the trailer is a clear recollection from an old stunt performed in those Battlefield titles.
Battlefield 2042 will be released on 22nd October 2021, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
