Barcelona's 22-men squad named for the game against Napoli, US youth player Konrad de la Fuente finds a spot in the team

The Catalan giant’s vital match is against Napoli tomorrow and they do lack depth in the squad to play in the Champions League campaign, which unlike other years has been forced to change to format. This year the last games of the campaign will be hosted in a neutral venue and the matches will be played in a quick succession.

On top of that Barcelona is suffering from injury problems and suspensions of Sergio Busquets and Arturo Vidal along with Arthur not willing to play anymore has given the chance for Barcelona B players to prove their worth for the club.

As we see in the 22 men squad, Konrad de la Fuente handed over the number 45 jersey along with his copatriots including Monchu, Ludovit Reis, Óscar Mingueza, and Jandro Orellana. All of these Barca players will be playing against Napoli and can be called upon when needed during the match. These players are very talented and this may be the perfect opportunity for them as we saw how Barca B players like Ansu Fati, Riqui Puig, and Ronald Araújo have already made a place in the first team.

Konrad was born to Haitian parents and he moved to Barcelona at a very young age when his father took a job in the Haitian embassy to Spain. The talented youth player has been at La Masia for almost 7 years now and it’s only recently he has been a regular in the Barca B team and showed his worth in their Segunda B campaign, which they lost in the final game, unfortunately.

Konrad has also represented the United States at the youth levels as well, was included at the 2019 U-20 team in the FIFA World Cup held in Poland.

Officially, the injury-stricken Lenglet, Griezmann, and Ronald Araujo are being medically cleared after today’s training session and will be playing for tomorrow’s crucial game against Napoli. On the other hand, Umtiti is still out of the squad due to injury and Setien doesn’t want to rush things with Dembéle, so has kept him away from tomorrows’ match, even if he is ready.

Here’s the club statement:

The full squad is as follow: Ter Stegen, N. Semedo, Piqué, I. Rakitic, Suárez, Messi, Neto, Lenglet, Griezmann, Jordi Alba, S. Roberto, F. De Jong, Junior, Iñaki Peña, Riqui Puig, Ansu Fati, R. Araujo, Monchu, Mingueza, Konrad, Reis and Jandro. Sergio Busquets and Arturo Vidal are missing due to suspension and Umtiti and Dembéle are injured. Martin Braithwaite is not in the squad as he is not elegible for the Champions League.

On Friday the squad trained at the Ciutat Esportiva with Lenglet, Griezmann, and Araujo all getting the medical all-clear after the session was complete.

So, it will be interesting to see how Quique Setien lines his squad against Napoli and try to get through the round of 16 to get to the quarter-finals that will be held in Lisbon and also, if these Barca B players get a chance to play in the crucial match.
