Barcelona has been going through a lot of changes after their 8-2 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich. Quique Setien had been sacked and former Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has been appointed as the new manager.

Koeman has already told the board his plan for the upcoming seasons and many veteran players don’t feature in his plans. The prime example of such players is Luis Suarez and Ivan Rakitic.

Barcelona signed Ivan Rakitic from LaLiga side Sevilla in 2014. He has been one of their mainstays in the midfield for over the last years. But Koeman doesn’t have him in his plans.

So, now Ivan Rakitic has decided to join his former club Sevilla.

Rakitic himself asked to Barça to leave the club. He only wanted to come back to Sevilla. Love story. Back @ home. 🤝🔴 #transfers https://t.co/tEIao7oaDF

According to Marca, Rakitic is undergoing the requisite medical tests in Barcelona, ahead of his imminent transfer. He will be signing a three-year deal with the Andalusian club and is expected to replace the outgoing Ever Banega.

Rakitic will be Sevilla’s third signing this summer after Suso and Oscar Rodriguez both arrived on permanent deals.

Sevilla will sign Rakitic on a free transfer, who is in the final year of his contract with Barcelona. The Catalans are happy even without receiving a fee as Rakitic is already out of Koeman’s plans and they can get one of their big earners off the wage bill.
