Barcelona are being investigated by UEFA for their dealings with Enriquez Negreira. The case has been taken to the Spanish court, and is now being looked into by the governing body of Europe as well.
Things just keep going from bad to worse for the Catalonian side, who are already charged with corruption. They have also been handed a wage bill for 23/24 that is €200 million less than their current amount. And they will not have the ability to use the financial levers this time around.
As they did before, the club is still denying any wrongdoing related to this case.
Barcelona being investigated by UEFA for rule breaches
UEFA are very particular when it comes to rules surrounding corruption and bribing referees. If Barcelona are found to be in violation of any of these rules, they might be banned from European competition.
Not only would this look very bad for them in terms of image, but it would also pose a huge financial problem for them. The Champions League has been a big source of income for them for a very long time. And losing that would only worsen their current situation, which is already quite troubling.
La Liga will not be able to hand out punishments for the case since it is more than five years old. However, if Barcelona are found guilty based on UEFA’s investigation, they could be penalised quite harshly.
