Bangladeshi fast bowler Rubel Hossain announced his retirement from the Test format but will be playing in the other formats. he has represented the country in 27 Tests after making his debut in the format against West Indies in 2009 and scalped 36 wickets, his best figures of 5 for 166. He couldn’t make a lot of impact on tests but he made significant contributions in limited overs format.

Rubel played his last Test in February 2020 against Pakistan where he picked 3 wickets, giving out 113 runs after bowling for 25 overs. He couldn’t give out the same efforts in the Test match and his economy rate has always been a matter of concern. His retirement will open doors for talented youngsters.

Mushifar Rahim also retired a few weeks back from the T20I format after he had a poor form in the Asia Cup 2022 squad that was announced recently. It has become very important for the Bangladeshi Cricket board to invest in their youngsters, especially after the team’s exit in Asia Cup 2022. Rubel featured in T20 World Cup 2021 squad for Bangladesh but wasn’t a part of the playing XI. Bangladesh is keen on preparing a set of young fast bowlers and in that case it would be next to impossible for him to make a comeback.

“To provide chances to youngsters I have decided to retire from red-ball cricket,” Rubel wrote on his official Facebook account.

He will continue to play in the Dhaka Pemier League (BPL) and the other white-ball tournaments as well. He wrote “I will continue playing in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) along with the other white-ball tournaments. Pray for me so that I can gift you with colourful dreams in white-ball formats,”
