Bagmati Express Accident
A special train carrying passengers stranded after the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express accident departed from Dr. MGR Chennai Central railway station early Saturday morning. The train resumed its journey around 4:45 a.m., following an overnight halt due to the collision at Kavaraippettai Railway Station.
The accident, which took place on Friday night, caused major disruptions, leaving passengers stranded and in need of assistance.

The collision occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Friday when the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express collided with a stationary goods train between the Chennai-Gudur section near Kavaraippettai. The impact led to the derailment of 12 coaches, injuring 19 passengers. Train services in the area were thrown into disarray, resulting in the cancellation of two trains: the Chennai Central-Vijayawada Jan Shatabdi Express and the Vijayawada-Chennai Central Jan Shatabdi Express. Additionally, more than half a dozen trains had to be diverted to alternate routes.
In the immediate aftermath of the accident, officials worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and comfort of the stranded passengers. Food and water were provided during the delay, and a help desk was set up at Chennai Central to offer guidance and support to affected travelers. Rescue teams were quickly dispatched to the site, and efforts to restore train movement were initiated without delay.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed his shock and concern over the incident. In a statement on social media, he confirmed that all injured passengers were being treated at hospitals and assured the public that the rescue operations were under continuous monitoring. He added that helpline numbers had been issued by the railways to assist those impacted by the accident. CM Stalin also directed key officials, including the Minister for Minorities, SM Nasar, and the District Collector, to oversee the rescue operations at the accident site.
In his message, CM Stalin emphasized that the government was working swiftly to provide rescue and relief, with separate teams arranging food and travel facilities for the stranded passengers. He also mentioned that the fire department was involved in clearing the derailed coaches from the tracks. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin visited the injured passengers at the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital, offering support to those recovering from the accident.
