Seven years on, Avengers: Endgame is still pulling crowds. Its re-release, Avengers Endgame: Encore, took the No. 1 spot at the global box office this weekend. Disney’s official box office report also shows Marvel Studios passing a major milestone.
If you want the film’s background first, Avengers: Endgame has the full story on Wikipedia. For more Marvel coverage, visit our latest entertainment updates.
Avengers Endgame Encore: The Numbers
| Metric | Figure |
|---|---|
| Global opening | About $86 million (estimated) |
| Domestic | About $26 million |
| International | About $60 million |
| Marvel Studios lifetime total | $35.075 billion across 38 films |
| Endgame all-time total | $2.885 billion (No. 2 ever) |
| Gap to Avatar | Only $39 million |
A Re-Release That Punches Above Its Weight
Re-releases rarely make headlines, but this one did. The $86 million debut is the estimated second-highest global opening ever for a re-release. That’s an impressive result for a film most fans already own on streaming or disc.
It also shows something about modern moviegoing. Audiences still want communal, big-screen events, especially with an emotional finale like Endgame.
Marvel Passes $35 Billion
The bigger story may be Marvel’s total. The studio now sits at $35.075 billion across 38 films, which Disney describes as the most successful film franchise in history. That is a striking figure, especially for a franchise that has faced “superhero fatigue” talk in recent years.
Endgame vs. Avatar: A Very Tight Race
Endgame now stands at $2.885 billion, No. 2 on the all-time list and just $39 million behind Avatar. That’s a small gap for a film of this scale. If the re-release keeps earning, the race for the top spot could get interesting, though nothing here confirms that will happen.
The Infinity Vision Effect
Premium screens did much of the heavy lifting. The film opened in over 3,000 theaters, and more than 1,300 of them were Infinity Vision screens. Those screens delivered about 52% of the opening weekend total.
| Infinity Vision Feature | What It Means for You |
|---|---|
| Largest screens | Maximum scale |
| Laser projection | Brighter, clearer picture |
| Premium audio | More immersive sound |
Fans Love It
Audience reaction looks strong. The film holds a 96% Verified Moviegoer score on Rotten Tomatoes across more than 1,000 ratings, and PostTrak polling shows 5 out of 5 stars from both general and family audiences.
A Sneak Peek at Doomsday
This wasn’t only a nostalgia trip. The re-release includes exclusive new footage that sets up Avengers: Doomsday, arriving in theaters on December 18. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film features Robert Downey Jr. in a new role as Doctor Doom.
Anthony Russo has said the team didn’t want to change what Endgame is. Instead, the new scenes add depth to the Avengers’ story while teasing what’s ahead. It’s a smart bridge between the two films, and a good reason to see it on a big screen.
