Avengers: Doomsday X-Men Merch: Is a Betrayal Hiding on a T-Shirt?

Sometimes the best clues are printed on a shirt. New York Comic-Con’s exclusive Avengers: Doomsday merchandise is styled like a concert tour, and the way it lists the X-Men has fans asking who is really on the team’s side. For more Marvel and Hollywood news on Technosports, read on.

Avengers: Doomsday- The T-Shirt Clue

The X-Men shirt is branded as the “Sentinels Tour.” Professor X gets top billing, followed by his students Beast, Nightcrawler, Gambit and Cyclops. Magneto is named too, but only as a “special guest,” which suggests he isn’t fully part of the core lineup. Mystique, who has a significant role in the film, isn’t mentioned on the front at all.

A Surprising Reconciliation, Or Is It?

Magneto is usually the X-Men’s antagonist, and his feud with Charles Xavier often ends in disaster. The film’s X-Men teaser, however, showed a tender moment between the two, hinting at a truce after decades of conflict. His Doomsday costume even carries the X-Men logo on its belt buckle. The “special guest” label on the merch hints the team may still keep him at arm’s length.

Mystique’s Murky Loyalties

Mystique’s standing on her Earth is unclear. The trailer shows her fighting Florence Pugh’s Black Widow while Gambit takes on Shang-Chi, so she appears to be on someone’s side in battle. But with the multiverse at stake, a betrayal wouldn’t be shocking. Magneto abandoned her after the mutant cure in X-Men: The Last Stand, and she might return the favor if Doctor Doom makes a tempting offer.

Why Doctor Doom Could Recruit Double Agents

Avengers: Endgame Encore added to the intrigue with a post-credits scene where Doom picks up Bruce Banner, who has been experimenting on himself after Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Doom doesn’t explain his plan, but it looks like a precaution to keep the Hulk out of his way.

If Doom is covering every angle, Magneto is an obvious concern. He is an Omega-level mutant capable of planet-scale chaos, even a global EMP. Doom could tempt him with a key place for mutantkind in a rebuilt multiverse, and Mystique, who has spent her life hiding behind other faces, might find a fresh start appealing.

A word of caution: this is a lot to read into a T-shirt. Marketing has focused heavily on the X-Mansion fight, which is likely just one of several set pieces.
