The multiverse is falling apart, yet Avengers: Doomsday still found a moment to remember Groot. It’s a small gag in a brand ad, but it’s got Guardians fans wondering what’s next.
Avengers: Doomsday: The Little Moment That Says a Lot
A new promo from deodorant brand Secret follows a front desk worker at Avengers Tower, fielding calls and signing for packages meant for Yelena Belova and the team. Near the end, she’s on the phone with someone who needs help spelling Groot’s name, presumably because they’re trying to reach him.
It’s a joke, but it’s also the first Guardians mention tied to Doomsday.

Why They’re Missing From Doomsday?
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 split the original crew, but Rocket and Groot kept the team going with new members. They’ve been off the radar since, probably busy protecting other corners of the universe. As Captain Marvel pointed out in Endgame, Earth isn’t the centre of everything.
Doomsday isn’t an all-hands event, either. Doctor Strange, Spider-Man and Captain Marvel also look set to wait for Secret Wars. The Guardians seem to be on that same bench for now.
Could Nova Bring Them Back?
Here’s the hopeful part. Loki showrunner Michael Waldron has confirmed he’s working on a Nova movie, and it reportedly revisits Thanos’ attack on Xandar, home of the Nova Corps, before Infinity War. Xandar was the first place the Guardians were treated like heroes, so a cameo seems like a safe bet.
There’s a catch. James Gunn now co-chairs DC Studios, so he has no say in Marvel’s plans for the characters he created. Still, the team has plenty of story left, and in the comics Nova has even served as a Guardian.
