Today, at the ISL 2022-23 finals ATK Mohun Bagan has finally clinched the title against the rising Bengaluru FC in the most dramatic fashion! Today also the decider was penalties and while the scoreline was 2-2 even after 120 minutes the penalties decided the fate of the Mariners.
If you remember, this time ISL’s semi-finals ended with penalties, the third-place Mariners were the underdogs in the match but have shut all its critics with their performance today.
ATK Mohun Bagan clinch the ISL 2022-23 title
ATK Mohun Bagan emerges as the champions with a 4-3 victory in the penalty shootout. This is their first-ever title, a remarkable achievement. Meanwhile, Bengaluru FC’s valiant efforts in today’s match ended in heartbreak as they fell short of the title.
Dimitri Petratos was the hero of the match scoring both penalties to make the scoreline 2-2 and keep the Mariners in the finals! Whereas for Bengaluru FC, Sunil Chhetri scored from penalties in the first half to keep the game on level terms whereas Roy Krishna scored in the 78th minute to lead them but it didn’t last much longer.
After securing their first ISL title, ATK Mohun Bagan will be rebranded as Mohun Bagan Super Giants, as announced by Sanjiv Goenka. This comes after ATK was removed from the club’s name on the day they clinched the championship, marking a significant milestone in the club’s history.
