ATK Mohun Bagan 5-0 Blue Star SC: Mariners deliver dominant win in AFC Cup 2022 to set up playoff next week

ATK Mohun Bagan picked up an impressive 5-0 win over Sri Lanka’s Blue Star SC as they moved closer to qualifying for the Group Stage of the AFC Cup. Despite playing without their star players Liston Colaco, Roy Krishna, Sandesh Jhingan and Amrinder Singh, the Mariners had no trouble putting in a remarkable performance to win.

The scoring opened in the 24th minute, courtesy of Joni Kauko. Manvir Singh would double their lead only five minutes later, followed by a penalty that Kauko converted from the spot.

On the other side of half time, David Williams scored with twelve minutes remaining while Manvir Singh completed his double in the final minute of the game.

ATK Mohun Bagan advance to playoffs

Here is what ATK Mohun Bagan head coach Juan Ferrando had to say following the win: “I’m never completely happy. I know the level of the players. In my point of view, I have the best squad but it’s normal after one month since the last game against Hyderabad – it’s difficult to come back and play perfectly.

“It is necessary to improve details for the next game and I know we can do it – 100 per cent.”

ATK Mohun Bagan will be determined to continue their dominant performances, as they take on Abahani Dhaka in their next game – the playoffs. The match will be played next Tuesday in front of the home fans of the Mariners at Salt Lake Stadium.
