Aston Villa have loaned out Mahmoud Trezeguet until the end of the season to Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir. The player completed his medical for the transfer this morning, and will be available for selection soon.
The Midlands club have confirmed the transfer of the player in an official statement: “Aston Villa can confirm TrĂ©zĂ©guet has joined Ä°stanbul BaÅŸakÅŸehir on loan until the end of the season.”
“TrĂ©zĂ©guet suffered a lengthy injury lay-off in 2021 but returned to action last month and will now look to get valuable game time over the second half of this season,” Aston Villa added.
Mahmoud Trezeguet joins Istanbul Basaksehir on loan
The Egyptian international will be playing in Turkey for the second time in his career, previously featuring for Kasimpasa from 2017-2019.
He joined Aston Villa in 2019 for €10 million, and scored seven goals and provided two assists in his first season in the Premier League. This eventually helped Villa stay up in the top flight and avoid relegation, while also reaching the final of the League Cup that season.
After returning from injury, he joined Egypt for the African Cup of Nations, and helped them reach the final. Mahmoud Trezeguet starred in their quarter-final win against Morocco, scoring the winner off the bench. The national team finished as the runners up in the competition, losing to Senegal on penalties.
Aston Villa have enjoyed a successful transfer window performance in January, and now have a plus in offloading the winger. They have signed Philippe Coutinho in the winter window, while also signing Emi Buendia and Leon Bailey in the summer.
