Assassin’s Creed Shadows Details Mastery System and Progression Ahead of March 20 Release

With the introduction of two different characters in Assassin’s Creed Shadows — Naoe and Yasuke — Associate Game Director Julien said they were in uncharted territory in terms of player progression. The team knew they wanted to stay true to the themes of martial arts and mastery. Each of the protagonists has a unique Mastery tree suited to their weapons and combat style. Weapon trees let players hone up existing skills, unlock new combos, and raise weapon efficiency as foes get tougher.

In addition, the archetype trees provide unique skills tailored to each character’s fight style. For example, Yasuke could spend on samurai honing, allowing him to change weapons in the midst of a combo. Players complete quests and other activities throughout feudal Japan to level up, earning Mastery points to upgrade skills. Finally, killing specific monsters in the game world rewards you with bonus Mastery points.

The blog then goes into more detail on Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ knowledge system, equipment, and character stats. Players can collect a variety of gear sets for both Naoe and Yasuke, obtained through looting chests or fallen enemies. Ubisoft notes that loot is mostly randomized, encouraging a sense of discovery throughout the game. Ubisoft has been steadily releasing updates like this to inform undecided players and build hype among eager fans. However, Assassin’s Creed Shadows remains a divisive entry in the series, sparking debate within the community.
