Stephane Boudon, creative director of Assassins Creed Mirage, has terrible news for players expecting extended post-launch support and DLC for the game. Instead of reverting to the RPG aspects employed in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which Boudon also directed, Ubisoft’s Assassins Creed Mirage harkens back to the action-adventure foundations of the original Assassin’s Creed title from 2007.
Players in Assassins Creed Mirage will follow the story of Basim, a young street thief living in Baghdad during the Golden Age. Basim seeks retribution and answers for his past, and he joins an ancient assassination organization to accomplish his purpose.
Basim learns more about the credo while working as an assassin and eventually becomes a Master Assassin, one of the order’s highest possible positions. The protagonist’s adventure will also take him to Alamut, the famed headquarters of the Assassin’s Creed order from the first game.
Ubisoft’s creative director Stephane Boudon reveals in a Reddit AMA that the studio has no plans for extended post-launch support or DLC for Assassins Creed Mirage.
These plans could change because Boudon says the studio has no plans “for now,” although DLC appears to be confined to cosmetics and supplementary material at launch. Pre-orders feature the bonus “Forty Thieves” quest, and purchasing the Deluxe or Collector’s Case editions grants access to a Prince of Persia-inspired Deluxe Pack.
The director of Assassins Creed Mirage also emphasized the game’s fresh emphasis on fluidity and control in parkour, which is a staple of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Assassins Creed Mirage lacks key parkour aspects from earlier Assassin’s Creed games, but Boudon claims that various little details were developed to ensure players had complete control of Basim. The development team is still fine-tuning parkour and striving for the highest degree of quality in preparation for the game’s release later this year.
The potential of DLC remains, but based on Boudon’s recent remark, it appears to be quite improbable. Although some may be disappointed by the absence of post-launch support and DLC, Ubisoft looks to be focusing on the main plot and gameplay aspects of Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Furthermore, Ubisoft considers Assassin’s Creed Mirage to be a tribute to 2007’s Assassin’s Creed, which likewise did not receive DLC after its release.
Assassins Creed Mirage launches October 12 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
