In the match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, Asia Cup 2022, the former chased the highest-ever runs in the UAE in T20I. With the victory, Bangladesh got knocked out of the Asia Cup tournament. The lower-order batters ended the game with just four balls to spare. Previously, both teams lost the game against Afghanistan in their opening match.

Sri Lanka had won the toss and elected to bowl first. Shabbir Rahman from Bangladesh got dismissed early but Mehidy Hasan Miraz took the team to 50 runs in the first six overs. Wanindu Hasranga and Chamika Karunaratne dominated the mid-overs after scalping the wickets of Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, and Miraz quickly. Afif Hossain and Mahmudullah had 57- a run stand as Bangladesh took their score over 150 runs. Mossadek Hossain and Taskin Ahmed added runs that helped Sri Lanka post a total of 183 in 20 overs.

Sri Lanka had to chase 184 runs when Pathum Nissanka and Kusul Mendis took in charge of the bowling. In the powerplay they restricted runs but in the first five overs the duo gave only 44 runs. Debutant bowler Ebadot Hossain scalped both Nissanka and Charith Asalanka’s wickets in the same over.

Eabadot and Taskin Ahmed’s good fielding and bowling brought Bangladesh back to the game. Sri Lanka had almost lost all the hopes after Shanaka got dismissed and 25 runs were still needed in the last two overs to win the game.

Bangladesh couldn’t restrict Sri Lanka from reaching the total and got out of the race for Asia cup 2022. It’s a bit disheartening for the Bangladeshi players as the team couldn’t win a single game in last year’s T20 World Cup.
