Arsenal seized the perfect opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table in their first game of 2023. The North London outfit picked up a 4-2 win against Brighton, and moved seven points clear.

Manchester City drew 1-1 with Everton while Newcastle United played out a goalless draw against Leeds United. While Arsenal have 43 points, City are seven behind with 36 while Newcastle United have 34, with an extra game played over the top two.

Can Arsenal win the Premier League title in 22/23?

Mikel Arteta’s side has been very impressive from the start of the season. And with the World Cup out of the way, the league title is the primary focus for the team. Their performances have maintained the same level, which goes to show how hungry and determined the team is.

The fact that they have the youngest squad in the entire division adds to this quality. And their ruthlessness is clearly on display. The injury to Gabriel Jesus was expected to result in a lack of goals. But, with Eddie Nketiah stepping up alongside some very consistent performances from Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka, the striker’s absence is barely being felt.

Manchester City are stumbling in their quest to retain the title, while Newcastle United are not at the level to compete for the title just yet. As a result, it may be the year Arsenal end City and Liverpool’s domination of the Premier League and claim the league title for themselves.
