Argentina will face Spain in the 2025 Finalissima, after they claimed the Copa America and Euro 2024 trophies respectively. If Argentina vs Italy last time was the Maradona derby, then this time, it’s the Lionel Messi derby.
Spain is where the Argentina captain played most of his club football, as the most iconic player in the history of Barcelona. And soon, he will lead his country against La Roja in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.

Messi is also part of another story involving himself and Barcelona when it comes to the Finalissima. Lamine Yamal was one of the standout performers for Spain at Euro 2024, and has been performing at an unbelievable level for someone aged 16.
When the two teams face each other next year, it’ll be the future of Barcelona taking on one of the greatest legends in the history of the club. Messi was interestingly involved in a photoshoot with Yamal when he was a baby, 17 years ago.
The pair have come a long way since then, and will battle it out for bragging rights next year.
When will Messi retire from international football?
He intends to continue playing for the time being
