The Argentina national team could visit Kerala to play two friendly matches in October 2025, as revealed by the Times of India. Kerala’s sports minister V Abdurahiman reportedly participated in an online meeting with the AFA to discuss the possibility of bringing them over to India.
The original plan was to host them in June, but since the monsoon doesn’t provide favourable conditions for football, the date was moved back to October. And the estimated budget to arrange for the friendlies is reportedly between ₹32-40 crore. The Kerala state government will have to give out that amount in its entirety, alongside the fees for their opponents.
Argentina to play friendlies in Kerala in October 2025?
The prospect of facing the Indian national team is out of question since the Blue Tigers are 102nd in the world, far below the Albiceleste. As a result, the reigning World Cup winners will have to be presented with a list of rivals, from which they will pick out a worthy opponent.
Fans have been left unimpressed by the state authority’s willingness to spend so much on bringing Argentina to India. Many have indicated that the same amount of money could be spent on developing grassroot football in India. And it would be a great investment considering FIFA’s plans for India’s Vision 2047 project.
It remains uncertain whether the friendlies will be played at all, considering all the variables involved. But the initial contact has been made for it to be made possible. Moreover, there has also been indication that a new world-class stadium could be developed in Payyanad, Malappuram to host the friendly.
