Apple to launch its iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max with larger camera bumps

When the schematics for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max were supposedly leaked, both flagships appeared to have larger back camera bumps. According to one expert, this is due to the 48MP sensor update that will be available for both versions.

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are expected to have 48MP primary rear cameras, up from 12MP on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities had predicted this camera upgrade before, but this is the first time he has given a reason for the shift in dimensions.

The diagonal length of the 48MP sensor will expand by 25-35 percent, according to the expert, while the height of the 7P lens will increase by 5-10 percent. These factors necessitate an increase in the camera bump, which, while not appealing on the surface, will be a necessary modification. Apple’s decision to include a larger sensor appears to be useful for recording high-quality photographs and video in low-light situations. With a fourfold improvement in maximum image resolution, ‘professional’ users will most likely use the sensor update for creative work.

Kuo also predicts that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will enable 8K video recording, meaning that users will be able to capture film beyond the 4K threshold in addition to high-resolution photos. If Apple decides to allow 8K 60FPS video recording, you’ll need a lot of internal capacity.

This is why both flagships are expected to come with up to 2TB of internal storage, and with more internal storage comes a higher retail price. It’s unknown where Apple will get these 48MP sensors, but Sony appears to be the most likely provider. There’s also no word on whether the technological behemoth will pay a greater price for these 48MP sensors than for the 12MP ones, but we’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available.
