Apple moves 25% of AirPods manufacturing to India

As the US technology giant moves production to other nations, Apple‘s long-standing relationship with China is coming to an end. According to reports, the India-based Jabil subsidiary that supplies they have begun making AirPods’ components.

Due to two factors, its footprint in China is still declining. The first is the problem with relying on only one production facility. We already know that this is a bad strategy thanks to the pandemic. The second justification is the detrimental effects of the shutdown and related events in China. The business increased the production transfer after the incidents at the Chinese factory.

With India serving as its main operational hub, it intends to keep producing in Asia. According to recent rumours, the Indian division of supplier Jabil has reportedly begun making parts for AirPods. Given the market share that AirPods have, this is a big milestone for the firm and India.

India will produce more than just headphones, in fact. Also recently launched in the nation is the production of the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. By 2020, instead of the current 5-7%, they want India to contribute 25% of its production. Since beginning iPhone production there in 2017, the corporation has staked a significant amount of money in India to support local manufacturing initiatives supported by the Indian government.

A portion of iPad manufacture from China may be brought to India, according to CNBC. Tim Cook, the CEO, previously identified India as a potential market for expansion, despite the fact that they had only a 5% market share in the country’s smartphone market.
