According to Ross Young, a display industry consultant who has previously provided correct information about upcoming Apple products, Apple intends to release new 13-inch MacBook Air, 11-inch, and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models with OLED panels in 2024. On Sunday, Young sent a tweet to his followers with the most recent information.

Young did not provide any further information, but earlier this year he stated that all three gadgets would have “two-stack” OLED displays, which contain two layers of red, green, and blue emission for improved brightness and reduced power usage. Young had previously stated that ProMotion would be supported on all three devices up to a refresh rate of 120Hz. Promotion, which has a refresh rate of 24Hz to 120Hz, is already present in iPad Pro models made in 2017 and after; nevertheless, ProMotion is brand-new to the MacBook Air.

In 2021, Apple added ProMotion, which also has a 24Hz to 120Hz range, to the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.

OLED screens are not yet available on Macs or iPads. The LCD screens on Apple’s most recent MacBook Air and iPad Pro models have better contrast ratios of 1,000,000:1 and mini-LED backlighting for increased brightness on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. OLED displays, in contrast to LCDs with mini-LEDs, have self-emitting pixels and do not require illumination, giving the gadgets an even higher contrast ratio and longer battery life.

Display Supply Chain Consultants’ CEO is Young (DSCC) and he has a very successful track record when it comes to Apple product rumours. In the past, he accurately predicted that products like the iPhone 13 Pro and MacBook Pro would have ProMotion, that the sixth-generation iPad mini would have an 8.3-inch display, that the most recent MacBook Air would have a slightly larger 13.6-inch display, and much more.
