Apple first developed its mobile processors; then, it successfully built its ARM-based notebook chipset. And now the company is in work of developing its cellular modem. Well, it isn’t any open secret, as we already knew that Apple is indeed working on its cellular modem for the latest 5G and upcoming 6G technology.

In our opinion, Apple might have just had enough from the delays caused by its suppliers. As we already know, the latest iPhone 12 experienced a delayed launch in many countries; one of the attributes to this could be the delay in the supply of components by apple’s supply partners, including Qualcomm. But well, since you already built your processors might as well try to develop your modem

Earlier, Apple and Qualcomm had a falling out, making the Cupertino giant purchased the 4G modem for its devices from intel. At that time, intel was a new player in the modem market, and soon it became a reality that intel was incapable of developing efficient 5G modems. Thus, after the legal battle between Apple and Qualcomm was quelled, the Cupertino giant had to move towards Qualcomm for its 5G modems to host in iPhone 12.

“This year, we kicked off the development of our first internal cellular modem, which will enable another key strategic transition. Long-term strategic investments like these are a critical part of enabling our products and making sure we have a rich pipeline of innovative technologies for our future.”

But, we all know that the partnership is a short-lived one, and soon Apple will try its luck in cellular modem production. If intel failure is any indication, then apple needs to be extremely vigilant in its modem development as these are unexplored territories for the Cupertino giant. However, the company’s cellular modem won’t come out any time soon before 20222 or 2023.
