Apple focusing on 6G wireless development

5G technology is already being widely implemented in various countries and is already being adopted by smartphone manufactures; as such, we can assume by the end of 2021, every smartphone will be 5G enabled.

Speaking of smartphone manufacturers, Apple is undoubtedly one of the worlds leading smartphone manufacturing brands.  A few months ago, the company released its new iPhone model supporting the 5G network.

Though 5G is yet to be completely implemented globally, recent reports indicate that Apple has already started working on sixth-generation cellular connectivity, or 6G, indicating it wants to be a technology leader rather than relying on other companies.

The Cupertino giant this week posted job ads seeking wireless system research engineers for current and next-generation networks. Apple wants workers for its Silicon Valley and San Diego offices, where the company works on wireless technology development and chip design.

“You will have the unique and rewarding opportunity to craft next-generation wireless technology that will have a deep impact on future Apple products. In this role, you will be at the center of a cutting-edge research group responsible for creating next-generation disruptive radio access technologies over the next decade.”

The 6G technology will most probably start to roll out until about 2030. Still, the job listings indicate Apple wants to be involved at the earliest stages in developing the new technology. A company spokeswoman declined to comment.

The company relies heavily on Qualcomm for the supply of 5G modems, but now it wants to become independent in developing its next-gen modem. The company’s early involvement in 6G research and design indicates it won’t wait around for the next major advancement.

It was reported that last year Apple started the development of its first custom modem. This shows that Apple is quite serious about the future of 6G technology.

“long-term strategic investments like these are a critical part of enabling our products and making sure we have a rich pipeline of innovative technologies for our future.”

  1. Who doesn’t want to grow and grown faster? If Apple is truly advancing towards 6G technology that I would suggest is to make their phones price affordable. Every one loves iphone but can’t afford due to its high price. Apple can than contain both 6G technology with Apple handset in every hand.
