A rumor claims that Apple is preparing to reveal a 16-inch iPad in the fourth quarter of 2023. A larger iPad model than the existing 12.9-inch model has been rumored for years, though Apple has never announced anything. A new leak from someone claiming to be familiar with Apple’s product plans claims a 16-inch iPad is coming.
According to the leaker says Apple could reveal a 16-inch iPad in the fourth quarter of 2023. However, they warned that the date could change or the product could be killed in development.
Apple reportedly developing a 16-inch iPad Pro
The Information (via PhoneArena) said that the company is working on a 16-inch iPad Pro model, the company’s largest model to date. As per the report, this device might launch in 2023’s fourth quarter. This Apple tablet is allegedly targeted towards professionals like graphic designers and artists.
Apple might be attempting to market the 16-inch iPad Pro as a laptop substitute. Early examples of this strategy may be found in the Stage Manager feature that was brought into macOS 13. It is built to harmonise the iPad and MacBook user interfaces. Additionally, it is rumoured that Apple is developing a stripped-down version of the macOS just for the new iPad Pro devices. It is presently under development as “Mendocino,” and macOS 14 is planned for release next year.
Another recent rumor said that Apple is working on a version of macOS that would work with the iPad Pro. We’re taking this one with a big chunk of salt, but if true, it might mean that Apple is working on an entirely new class of iPad, one that would be much closer to a traditional laptop.
Apple’s push towards bridging the gap between the iPads and the Mac line is now evident. With the launch of the current generation Apple iPad Pro with the M2 chip, it was also announced that Black Magic Design Da Vinci Resolve would be coming to iPad OS. Da Vinci Resolve is a video editing software, particularly known for its node-based editing and color correction prowess.
With the launch of a potential 16-inch iPad Pro, Apple could be looking at bringing more pro-grade apps to the iPad. Gurman said that Apple is looking forward to creating an amalgamation of the current iPad experience and the Macs. The iPad Pro tends to be updated on an 18-month cycle, so a fourth-quarter 2023 announcement would be early by Apple’s normal schedule. However, a new display size could warrant an earlier-than-usual announcement.
