Apex Legends players are experiencing a major setback as Accolades in Apex Legends are set to be disabled indefinitely, according to the developers. Just days after Season 26: Showdown’s launch, the highly anticipated progression feature has been completely removed due to persistent technical issues that made gameplay nearly unplayable for many users.

What Are Accolades and Why Do They Matter?

Accolades are XP-boosting mini-achievements that track your in-game performance and appear in the post-match summary. Unlike traditional kill-focused rewards, this Season 26 feature was designed to recognize diverse gameplay contributions including support actions, strategic positioning, and team play.

The system represented Respawn’s effort to create more inclusive progression that rewards different playstyles beyond just fragging. Players could earn XP for reviving teammates, providing cover, dealing consistent damage, and various other tactical contributions.

The Bug That Broke Everything

A bug caused constant, incorrect notifications that completely overwhelmed the user experience. Using the healing caustic gas perk causes the “medkit a day” accolade to indefinitely keep popping up on your accolade feed. This went on for the entirety of the match (10+ minutes). After a few minutes of it, it causes your game to stutter and freeze.

The Technical Breakdown:

Audio Spam: Constant notification sounds every few seconds
Visual Overload: Endless pop-up messages blocking game information
Performance Issues: Frame drops and stuttering during matches
Character-Specific Bugs: Caustic’s passive ability triggering infinite notifications

We believe there are ongoing server-side issues in Apex Legends that might have led to the removal of this feature, indicating the problem runs deeper than initially expected.

Community Response: Relief Mixed with Frustration

The Apex community’s reaction has been notably divided. While many players welcomed the temporary silence from notification spam, others expressed frustration about losing a progression system they’d been anticipating.

Pro Player Impact: DING DING DING: Apex Legends S26 leaks had players and pros excited for the update. However, audio bugs and new features have caused tension among ALGS professionals who need pristine audio for competitive play.

Casual Player Perspective: Many casual players appreciated the concept but found the execution disruptive to their gaming experience, with some reporting headaches from constant notification sounds.

Official Response and Fix Attempts

We’ve temporarily disabled Accolades while we work on this. We’ll let you know as soon as they are fixed and we’ve turned them back on, stated the official Apex Status account.

Respawn did attempt a quick fix: After being disabled due to a notification spam bug, Accolades are now re-enabled in all modes. The system should now function as intended, showing accurate post-match achievements without flooding your screen. However, this fix proved insufficient, leading to the indefinite disable decision.

What This Means for Season 26 Progression

With Accolades disabled, players are missing out on a significant XP source designed to reward diverse gameplay styles. This particularly affects:

Support Players: Who relied on Accolades to gain XP for non-combat contributions Battle Pass Progress: Slower progression without the additional XP boost New Players: Who benefited from recognition for learning different aspects of the game

For competitive esports followers, this disruption highlights how technical issues can impact even the most well-planned feature rollouts in live-service games.

Technical Lessons and Industry Impact

The Accolades situation demonstrates several important points about modern game development:

Feature Complexity: Even seemingly simple notification systems can have far-reaching technical implications Player Experience Priority: Sometimes removing a feature entirely is better than leaving it broken Community Feedback Speed: Modern gaming communities can quickly identify and report critical issues

This incident joins other notable Season 26 challenges, including the recurring Revenant immortality bug that also required character disabling.

Looking Forward: When Will Accolades Return?

Currently, there’s no official timeline for Accolades’ return. It seems the new accolades are a bit too frequent in their attempts to grab your attention – we’re working to get this fixed up! Thanks for hanging in there while we’re taking a look, indicates Respawn is taking a thorough approach to the fix.

The indefinite timeline suggests the issues are more complex than initially anticipated, possibly requiring significant backend changes rather than simple adjustments.

For mobile gaming and console players alike, this situation underscores the challenges of maintaining feature parity across platforms while ensuring stable performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will I lose XP progress while Accolades are disabled?

A: No, you won’t lose existing XP progress. However, you won’t earn the additional XP that Accolades would normally provide until the feature is re-enabled. Your standard match XP and Battle Pass progression continue normally.

Q: Is there any workaround to still benefit from Accolade-style gameplay?

A: While the notification and XP bonus systems are disabled, you can still play supportively and strategically. The underlying game mechanics that Accolades were designed to reward (revives, assists, damage dealing) still contribute to your overall performance and standard XP gains.
