Anurag Kashyap Embraces the Badge in Adivi Sesh-Mrunal Thakur’s ‘Dacoit’

Anurag Kashyap, known for his raw storytelling and unfiltered cinematic vision, is stepping into a new avatar—this time as a no-nonsense cop. The acclaimed director-turned-actor will be seen donning the uniform in the upcoming bilingual action drama Dacoit – Ek Prem Katha, starring Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur.

Shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu, the film promises a gripping narrative woven with themes of love, revenge, and betrayal. With Kashyap portraying a fearless inspector, the project takes an intriguing turn, blending intense action with sharp dialogue and an enigmatic character arc.

Anurag Kashyap’s Dynamic Cop Avatar

Known for helming critically acclaimed films like Gangs of Wasseypur and Black Friday, Kashyap has previously experimented with acting in dark, twisted roles. However, in Dacoit, he plays a devout follower of the Hindu God Ayyappa, tasked with upholding justice while navigating his own moral dilemmas.

“Playing a police officer who is an Ayyappa devotee is both fun and challenging,” Kashyap said. “The conundrums of duty versus dharma, and to go about doing his job with a dry sense of humor is fantastic. I am truly looking forward to playing this character in two languages, shooting in Hindi, as well as in Telugu. To get the same impact in both the languages is the challenging part, something I am thoroughly enjoying.”

Kashyap’s character is depicted as sharp-witted, sarcastic, and unwavering in his commitment to rooting out corruption. His presence adds a layer of intensity to an already high-voltage narrative.

A Tale of Love, Betrayal, and Vengeance

The film follows a convicted man’s thirst for retribution against his former lover, who betrayed him. As his dangerous scheme unfolds, Dacoit evolves into a riveting drama where emotions clash with vengeance. Adivi Sesh, who also co-wrote the screenplay with debutant director Shaneil Deo, brings his signature depth to the lead role.

Mrunal Thakur, known for her compelling performances, adds further complexity to the storyline. With an electrifying blend of action and drama, Dacoit aims to deliver an edge-of-the-seat cinematic experience.

Powerhouse Production Backing the Vision

The film is produced by Supriya Yarlagadda, with Suniel Narang serving as a co-producer. Presented by Annapurna Studios and executed under S.S. Creations, Dacoit is currently being filmed in Hyderabad, with an extended schedule planned in Maharashtra.

Adding to the excitement, the filmmakers have released a gripping poster that teases the film’s raw, intense atmosphere. The anticipation surrounding Dacoit is mounting, with fans eager to see Kashyap’s transformation into a relentless law enforcer.

Anurag Kashyap’s Evolution as an Actor

While Kashyap is celebrated for his filmmaking prowess, his acting career has also garnered significant attention. From his menacing portrayal in Imaikkaa Nodigal to his self-referential showdown in AK vs AK, he has consistently pushed boundaries with unconventional roles.

His performance as a corrupt cop in Akira and the sinister antagonist in Haddi further cemented his reputation as a formidable on-screen presence. With upcoming projects like Maharaja, Rifle Club, and Bad Cop, Kashyap continues to explore morally ambiguous characters with finesse.

With a powerhouse ensemble, a gripping storyline, and Anurag Kashyap stepping into an uncharted cop avatar, Dacoit – Ek Prem Katha is shaping up to be a must-watch. As the film moves deeper into production, audiences eagerly await its release to witness an explosive blend of action, emotion, and Kashyap’s signature intensity.
