Directorial Debut for Saiju Sreedharan

Footage marks the directorial debut of renowned editor Saiju Sreedharan, whose previous works include award-winning projects like Maheshinte Prathikaaram and the widely praised Kumbalangi Nights. Transitioning from editing to directing, Sreedharan brings a fresh perspective to the found-footage genre, emphasizing authentic storytelling and innovative visuals.

Storyline: Mystery, Isolation, and an Uncharted Adventure

Manju Warrier, known for her powerful performances in Thunivu, Asuran, and Lucifer, plays a pivotal role in this suspense-driven narrative. Reflecting on the film’s unique approach, Warrier states, “The found footage format allowed the film to unfold through the characters’ own video recordings, making for a unique and immersive experience. It was immensely challenging and thrilling at the same time.”

Kashyap’s Vision and Endorsement

Anurag Kashyap’s involvement as the Hindi presenter underscores the film’s cinematic potential. “I saw the Malayalam version of Footage and it stayed with me,” Kashyap shares. “It’s exciting to see young filmmakers from the Malayalam film industry not restricting themselves to a genre, style, or technique but breaking stereotypes to find new ways of telling stories.”

His association with Footage follows his recent support of Tiger’s Pond, the first Kannada film showcased at the Berlinale, reinforcing his commitment to promoting regional cinema on a national platform.

The ensemble cast, led by Warrier, Vishak Nair, and Gayathri Ashok, has been vocal about the challenging yet rewarding filming process.
