Antonio Conte‘s first game back from gallbladder surgery saw Tottenham Hotspur exit the Champions League at the Round of 16 stage. The Premier League club played out a 0-0 draw with AC Milan at home, and the Rossoneri qualified through their 1-0 advantage on aggregate.

Richarlison in particular was very openly critical of the exit after the game:

“We are out of the biggest club competition, you can’t play like this when needing to score a goal,” he said. “I think he should have put [pushed] the team forward, especially in the second half.”

Antonio Conte to be sacked as Spurs coach soon?

“This is not the right day to speak about my future,” Antonio Conte said after Spurs were eliminated. “I have a contract with Tottenham and Tottenham know very well my thoughts. At the end of the season we meet and then make a decision.”

“The situation is really clear. It’s one year and two months since I started, I always say the same thing, we need time and patience. At this moment we don’t have a solid foundation to be competitive and win.”

“I have a great relationship with the chairman. I have a contract until June, I’m ready to work at Tottenham. At the end there will be a decision.”

As things stand, there will be talks between Conte and Spurs at the end of the season regarding his contract. Talks over an extension have not gone very far, and there is a chance he could end up leaving the club in the summer.

Should he discontinue, the likes of Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Jesse Marsch and Luis Enrique are all out of a job and could be considered as replacements.
