Antoine Griezmann happy to be Barcelona’s new No. 9

The Frenchman is enjoying his spell at the Blaugranas and helping the team to score goals and is actually filling the gap after Barca’s best no. 9 Luis Saurez is ruled out for four months due to injury. Greizmann says he is happy to contribute to the team when it needs his help.

After facing a heavy away defeat on Saturday against Valencia, we expected better from Quique Setien’s team on Thursday night and we did see good football. Griezmann now is playing the role of the number 9 from the last Copa del Rey game against Ibiza.

Antoine Griezmann happy to be Barcelona’s new No. 9

Griezmann played a significant role against Ibiza last week and also played well yesterday netting the first goal of the game in just four minutes of the game eventually scoring his 12th Barcelona goal of the season.

The key difference from the game against Valencia and last night was the three changes in the squad – Nelson Semedo, Clement Lenglet and Arturo Vidal. They actually made chances for the forwards thus helping both Griezmann and Messi to score goals in the devastating 5-0 win over Leganes at Camp Nou.

Griezmann spoke after the match about his current position at the club and how he just wants to help Quique Setien’s team.

“If the club need me as a No.9, I’m here to help. If I’m on the left or in the middle, perfect, All I want is to help the team. I’m used to playing inside. I know where to move and I have more freedom, but I’m at this club to help.”

After the hunt for a number of strikers to be the next number 9 of the Blaugranas, Barcelona has confirmed before the kick-off that they will not be signing a No. 9 in the January transfer window which means we can see Griezmann playing as the striker for the rest of the season until Saurez returns after four months.
