Anthony Martial on the radar of Barcelona for January move

Barcelona have made an inquiry about Manchester United forward Anthony Martial ahead of the winter transfer window. The player has not had the best time at Old Trafford, and has been restricted to the bench for the majority of the new season.

Having made six appearances for the club this season in the Premier League, Martial has found the back of the net. Despite his mixed fortune at the club, we will have to wait for Ralf Rangnick’s final decision if the transfer is indeed set to go through.

Barcelona football director Mateu Alemany and CEO Ferran Reverter had travelled to Manchester for a business trip, and asked about the availability of Anthony Martial in January. The forward joined Manchester United from Monaco for a fee worth £36 million.

He still has a contract with United until 2025, and won’t come on the cheap if Barcelona do want him. Moreover, Barcelona’s difficult financial condition might be a roadblock in the transfer. They are over a billion Euros in debt and will be restricted to a very small transfer amount as a result.

Manchester United’s former manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, barely rotated the squad which limited Anthony Martial, Donny Van de Beek, Alex Telles, Diogo Dalot and Eric Bailly’s game time. But with Rangnick now unveiled as the manager until the end of the season, these players expect a change in fortune.

But, with the likes of Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Van de Beek all gunning for game time, Martial might be better suited to a move away. The final day about the transfer, of course, rests with Rangnick and his plans till the end of the season.
