Manchester United will not extend the contract of Anthony Martial any further, meaning the Frenchman will be able to leave the club as a free agent in the summer transfer window. The striker has struggled with injuries throughout his time at United, and things will now come to an end for him after spending nine years with the club.
This season, Martial has made 19 appearances for Manchester United across all competitions, scoring and assisting two goals. But, his involvement in the starting line-up has remained restricted, and with the club deciding not to trigger the one-year extension clause in his contract, he will be moved on soon.
Anthony Martial to leave Manchester United in the summer
With United suffering a crisis in attack, after Jadon Sancho’s absence, Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund failing to score regularly and Antony lacking an end product to his game, things haven’t looked bright for the club in a while. Alejandro Garnacho has stepped up to make a huge impact in the first team, as Martial was sidelined with illness.
The Frenchman was loaned out to Sevilla last winter in an attempt to revive his career with regular playing time. But, things didn’t work out for him in Spain and he returned to United in the summer.
Now, it will be interesting to see where Anthony Martial ends up since several clubs will be keen on seeing what he can do with regular opportunities in the starting line-up.
