Ansu Fati sidelined for El Clasico with knee contusion

Barcelona’s Ansu Fati has suffered a contusion to his left knee in a training session and will be out for the next few weeks. The club has confirmed the injury in an official statement, and are yet to place a timeline on his return.

The forward most recently came on as a substitute in their 2-1 defeat against Manchester United in the Europa League Playoffs. And he sustained the injury in the training session right after the game, and could be ruled out for their Copa del Rey semi-final against Real Madrid.

The 20-year-old has had the last two-and-a-half years plagued by injuries, which have significantly hampered his progress. The youngster spent 11 months out with a critical knee injury, and returned in time for the start of the 21/22 season.

However, he was then hit with a hamstring injury and missed five months out of the entire campaign. Now, he has picked up another blow to his fitness, making him unavailable for a crunch tie with Los Blancos.

Ansu Fati reveals Real Madrid trials before joining Barcelona

Ansu Fati was one of the first youngsters of the new wave to break into the first team. He was very impressive for the Spain national team as well, and was handed his debut shortly after his first few games with Barcelona. But, injuries hampered his momentum and have placed his career on hold.

The Catalonians will have to be careful with how they handle the youngster, since he is still considered an important part of the future project. But for now, he needs to slowly get back to full fitness and work his way back to the first team picture.
