Andy Weir’s New Sci-Fi Epic “Exoplanet” Will Make You Feel Time Itself Tearing Apart

Fans of The Martian and Project Hail Mary, mark your calendars — Andy Weir is back, and this time he’s not writing the story himself. He’s the mastermind behind it. Exoplanet, a brand-new Audible Original executive produced by Weir, launches exclusively on Audible on November 5th, and it sounds like nothing he’s done before.

Exoplanet: A Story You Have to Hear, Not Just Read

Written by acclaimed novelist Benjamin Percy, Exoplanet centers on the crew of the starship Wild Blue Yonder, torn apart by a quantum anomaly that scatters them across different eras on the same deadly exoplanet. Each survivor is hunted, alone, and racing against time — literally.

Separated by centuries, the trio must find a way to communicate across time itself before a relentless alien intelligence — one that’s been quietly feeding on human technology across every timeline — consumes them all.

Why This Cast Matters

This isn’t just star power for the sake of marketing. Anthony Mackie, Academy Award winner Ariana DeBose, and Emmy nominee John Leguizamo lead a full-cast audio experience designed to make listeners feel the isolation of being separated by five hundred years. Weir himself described the emotional core of the project vividly, noting how the performances make every impossible mile between the characters feel real.

Supporting the leads is a strong bench including Cherry Jones, Charlie Plummer, Ray Porter, Sufe Bradshaw, and Aida Osman — with immersive sound design courtesy of Skywalker Sound, the studio behind audio work on titles like Dune and Top Gun: Maverick, alongside an original score from composer Rob Cairns.

The Andy Weir Formula, Reimagined for Audio

Weir has built a reputation on meticulous science, propulsive plotting, and characters facing impossible odds — a formula that’s helped make him one of contemporary science fiction’s most influential voices, much like the broader tradition of hard science fiction storytelling that Wikipedia traces in its overview of the science fiction genre. With Exoplanet, that formula gets a distinctly audio-first twist: a mystery built specifically to be heard, not read.
