It’s likely that Google will build an app archiving feature into Android 15, allowing users to easily and quickly free up storage by archiving rarely used apps. Android software that has been archived removes unnecessary files, leaving only a simplified version that may be quickly restored if needed.

The auto app archiving feature was introduced by Google in 2023, although it is only supported by the Play Store at this time and does not support manual app archiving.

The archive capability will presumably be built right into the OS with Android 15, so things are about to change. Through the Apps section in Settings, users will be able to manually archive apps.

For users of Android devices without expandable storage or for those who are reluctant to purge apps in order to free up some additional space, this option is invaluable. Everybody has that one app that takes up space on their device until the dreaded delete day comes, whether it’s an app for a one-time use discount or a game with an obsession with ads.

And because phones can now do so many things, including act as a file manager, music player, camera, and library, storage space has been in high demand, forcing us to part with apps we once believed we couldn’t live without.

The new version of Android 15 may allow you to freeze and restore apps directly from the app info page in your settings, despite the fact that the app archiving capability is not yet available.

It will be simpler for everyone, regardless of where they download their apps, if Google makes it a standard feature for Android. Users will now be able to manually select which apps belong in the archives.
