Google has released the first Android 13 Developer Preview which brings many changes by building upon the existing features available in Android 12 OS. With the transition from Android 12 to 13, Google is also keeping up with its custom of naming the OS after desserts.

A leak last year had revealed that the upcoming Android 13 will have the codename ‘Tiramisu’ while also revealing some of the features planned for the OS. Now, the Dev preview has gone live which clearly reveals that this is the actual codename of Android 13.

Tiramisu is a coffee-flavored Italian dessert. It is made out of ladyfingers dipped in coffee, layered with a whipped mixture of eggs, sugar, and mascarpone cheese, flavored with cocoa. The recipe has been adapted into multiple varieties of cakes and other desserts and will now flavor the upcoming Android OS. Google has already got our mouths watering for Android 13 with this codename!

Ever since Android 9 Pie, Google has stooped basing its Android marketing campaigns around the desert-based codenames of the operating systems. The search giant has even skipped the process of allotting a codename to Android 10 but it resumed it with Android 11 OS with Red Velvet Cake and Android 12 Snow Cone.

In terms of the highlights of Android 13 OS, it will bring back the dynamic theme but with better integration with third-party apps. The company is also tweaking how Andorid handles security and permission.

A new photo picker will allow users to share photos and videos in local storage as well as on Google drive with an individual app without the app needing permission for all photos. This feature will not be limited to Android 13 OS and will make its way to devices running Android 11 OS and above.
