Chelsea will be loaning out Andrey Santos for the remainder of the 22/23 season, being unable to get a work permit for him. There was an agreement with Palmeiras for a loan move, but a change in the details at the last minute caused the Brazilian side to pull out of negotiations.
Now, the midfielder has the opportunity to return to his former club, Vasco da Gama, who are trying to reach an agreement over a loan move. But they aren’t the only club in the race, since MLS side LAFC are also keeping tabs on the situation.
Andrey Santos to spend the latter half of 22/23 on loan
The teenager was on fire during the Sudamericano Sub-20 with Brazil, lifting the trophy as the team captain. He was one of the standout performers of the tournament, earning the top scorer award alongside his teammate Vitor Roque, both scoring six goals.
Andrey Santos has been compared to Casemiro and Jude Bellingham for his tenacity and all-round performance in midfield. And he could be a great addition to Chelsea’s midfield for the new season, when he gets his work permit.
But for now, he will be developing with another team away from England. Whether it will be with Vasco da Gama or LAFC, or another club altogether, is what remains to be seen.
