Ander Herrera rejoins Athletic Bilbao on loan until 2023

Ander Herrera has rejoined Athletic Bilbao on a loan deal until 2023 with the option to make the move permanent included. He will be wearing the number 23 shirt as confirmed by the club on their official website. 

The player will play his second spell with the Basque side now, and was welcomed back by 2,500 fans at their home stadium. The 33-year-old is expected to make his second debut next week.

Here is what the midfielder had to say about his return: “Since I left Athletic you will have always heard me talking about how special this club is. I think even if you leave Athletic, Athletic never leaves you. This club changes you, that’s how it is. Athletic leaves a mark on you that is difficult to match in other places.

“I can’t wait to get started, I’ve imagined it many times during these last couple of weeks. I’m really looking forward to meeting up again with some teammates I’ve played with before.” 

Ander Herrera was expected to leave on a free transfer after terminating his contract with the club. But, he has now sealed a loan move back to Spain after spending time at Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG are now working to offload several other players before the end of the transfer window and trim their squad further.
