The Red team launched its monstrous 7nm based 64 core Threadripper 3990X at the CES 2020 and now we have some Geekbench scores that convey the actual performance of this CPU.

We already have seen the Threadripper 3970X ripping off the charts even scaring the Intel Xeon W-3175X server CPU. Intel has to worry a bit more because of the new Ryzen Threadripper 3990X which will not only create a record of being the fastest HEDT CPU but also put the older Intel Xeon CPUs to shame.

CES 2020: AMD’s monstrous 7nm 64-core Threadripper 3990X is here

The Threadripper 3990X features 64 cores and 128 threads. It has a base clock speed of 2.9GHz and a boost up to 4.3GHz across all 64 cores. The processor has a total cache of 288MB and has 88 PCIe lanes out of which 72 are useable. All this is packed within a TDP of 280W.

In its presentation at the CES 2020, AMD said that the Threadripper 3990X has 51% better performance than the 3970X. According to the Red Team, the CPU even scores a massive score of 25,399 points in Cinebench R20.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X's Geekbench multi-core score frightens every HEDT CPU out there

Now the tipster @TUM_APISAK has found a leaked Geekbench benchmark score of the 64-core CPU where it scored 1208 on single-core and a whopping 22,045 in multi-core. The system with which it was tested was an Asus ROG Zenith II Extreme motherboard and according to the Geekbench entry, it was paired with a whopping 262,144 MB of RAM.

The Geekbench 5 listing might not be an accurate one but if it is so the multi-core score of 22,045 points seems pretty nice considering the fact it is only behind the 32-core Ryzen Threadripper 3970X with 22,916 points and the 28-core Intel Xeon W-3175X with 23,521 points.

This score might be of an engineering sample or an untuned Ryzen Threadripper 3990X because it’s never possible for it to score behind its brother. With days we will see better scores than this surely, with some more tweaks and improvements the CPU can break all the records in the coming days.
