AMD Ryzen Overtakes Intel Core CPUs in Korean DIY Market, Ryzen 5 7500F Emerges as Top-Selling AM5 Chip

Danawa Research, a known research organization that collects data from various major DIY outlets recently released its latest report, which reveals that AMD has once again surpassed Intel in terms of CPU sales and volume. In the market brand preference is not a factor as consumers primarily base their CPU choices, on pricing and overall value.

AMD Ryzen Dethroning Intel Core in Korea

After facing competition from Intel’s 12th Gen and 13th Gen processors AMD Ryzen CPUs have made a strong comeback in Q4 2023. The recent monthly data indicates that AMD has regained the position with a 50.75% market share in the DIY segment while Intel holds a slightly lower market share of 49.25%.

Although the market shares are quite close it is important to note that Intel’s CPUs have been experiencing a decline since August 2023. This decline can be attributed to factors such, as the pricing of Ryzen CPUs the availability of AM5 motherboards the adoption of DDR5 memory, and an expanded range of product options.

The report highlights that AMD’s Ryzen AM5 CPUs now constitute 55.3% of all CPU sales in October 2023, whereas AM4 CPUs hold a 44.7% share. The continued strength of AM4 can be attributed to the excellent value provided by older Ryzen 5000/4000/3000 CPUs and APUs. Notably, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D garnered substantial popularity in the DIY segment, giving AM4 sales a significant boost earlier in the year.

With the introduction of X3D options in the Ryzen 7000 (AM5) family, the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D has emerged as the second best-selling chip in the AM5 segment. Meanwhile, the most favored choice in the AM5 family is the Ryzen 5 7500F, a 6-core chip without integrated graphics, recently launched in the global DIY markets for $179 US. The Ryzen 5 7600 takes the third spot, enjoying a significant share of the market. It’s evident that gamers and budget-conscious builders are increasingly considering AM5 options instead of sticking with the AM4 route.

On the Intel front, the Core i5-13400F continues to be the preferred choice, especially given its attractive sub-$200 US price point, making it an ideal pick for budget PC builders and gamers. This chip can be used with older 600-series or newer 700-series motherboards.

Intel has recently refreshed its desktop lineup with 14th Gen Raptor Lake CPUs, although these represent incremental clock speed bumps with configuration upgrades on select SKUs. The pricing remains consistent with 13th Gen parts, and we anticipate price drops for 13th Gen CPUs, alongside discounts on LGA 1700 motherboards during the upcoming holiday season. Non-K 14th Gen CPUs are expected to arrive in early 2024, and the market’s response to their launch will be closely watched. For now, AMD has reclaimed its position as the leader in the Korean DIY market.
